Secrets to Learning English Fast

I don't understand why people think it takes so long to learn a language.  They honestly believe it needs to take years to learn it well.  The truth is that it really doesn't.  It's all about the approach.  Some people, many people, learn a language in half a year or less.  The problem is that most people learn slowly.  What's the difference?

1.  People who learn English quickly are the ones who study pretty much every day.  They don't get excited for a while and then quit.  They keep going, and then soon enough, their English is a lot better than it was.

2.  The fast learners decide what is important and what is not.  Probably 90% of words are not worth studying.  Most native speakers don't even know most of the words if you read a dictionary.  Even if we know them, we rarely use them.  If you listen to native speakers talk in any language, you will find that they use the same words over and over.  They sometimes use other words, but most of the time they use under 1000 words.  That's 6 words a day for 6 months.  The trick is knowing which words to choose.

3.  Make sure you can actually use these words in sentences and real life situations.  A word you know but don't or can't use is essentially a waste of time.

If you believe what I just said, most students are probably wasting over 80% of their study time by paying attention to the wrong stuff.  No wonder they are frustrated and give up easily.  Learn a few new useful things everyday and you will absolutely Learn English Fast

Cool

I agree with part of this saying. If you want to pass the test of GRE OF TELF, Obviously, you need to remmber more and more words than 1000.And if we want to speak fluent in English, it will take a long time to exceed.

Is `4000 Essential English Words` by Paul Nation a useful book?

It will cost a pretty penny but maybe there are the words to choose.

I wondered if I could learn 6 words a day and for 6 months at that.

I even don’t know how many words I’ve already learned.  300? Maybe about 600? But it’s obviously not the same words native speakers use over and over :D

Reading books? Listening to your instructor and other English speaker? Yes. But those things won’t be that effective unless you put one secret ingredient. FUN. According to a Mary Poppins:
“In evry job that must be done
There is an element of fun
you find the fun and snap!
The job’s a game”.
So, just ENJOY learning ENGLISH.

Really useful tips again.  In Korea, most of us learn the wrong way for sure.  I will try my best to follow this advice from now on!

yeah, u r probebly right, most of the time english learners spend studying wrong stuff. I dont use most vocabulary I know, because I never came across any situation that I need to use them or sometimes I am quite afraid to use them in correct manner.

I think the best way to learn a language is to Listen and Read too much. you know before you make any output you need to input something, so these two skills (Listen & Read) are inputs and the others (Speak & Write) are outputs. More you read more u get to know a lot of words to express your self, and more u listen more you can understand what everybody else says.

Thanks.

Speak without Fear
The biggest problem most
people face in learning a new
language is their own fear. They
worry that they won ’t say things
correctly or that they will look
stupid so they don ’t talk at all.
Don’t do this. The fastest way to
learn anything is to do it – again
and again until you get it right.
Like anything, learning English
requires practice. Don’t let a little
fear stop you from getting what
you want.
Use all of your Resources
Even if you study English at a
language school it doesn ’t mean
you can’t learn outside of class.
Using as many different sources,
methods and tools as possible,
will allow you to learn faster.
There are many different ways
you can improve your English, so
don ’t limit yourself to only one or
two. The internet is a fantastic
resource for virtually anything,
but for the language learner it’s
perfect.
Surround Yourself with English
The absolute best way to learn
English is to surround yourself
with it. Take notes in English, put
English books around your room,
listen to English language radio
broadcasts, watch English news,
movies and television. Speak
English with your friends
whenever you can. The more
English material that you have
around you, the faster you will
learn and the more likely it is that
you will begin “thinking in
English.” .
