Valentine’s Day may be the only holiday celebrating love, but New Year’s Eve must at least be in the running for most romantic day of the year.

What makes New Year’s Eve so romantic? There’s the champagne, the sparkling lights, the winter weather that provides the perfect excuse to cuddle. Then there’s the tradition of kissing someone at midnight. Even if you aren’t in a relationship, by the end of the night, you just might be!

The movie New Year’s Eve turns the holiday into a romantic comedy about a bunch of different couples with intertwining love stories. Find out if Devan and Amy have any romantic New Year’s Eve plans this year.

Amy:  Did you see those movies Love, Actually and Valentine’s Day?

Devan:  Yeah, those are the ones that had all the intertwining stories of all these different people, right?

Amy:  Right. I guess they’re making another one just like that called New Year’s Eve, that’s sort of the same idea. It’s like one night, and all these different couples, sort of seeing how they get together.

Devan:  So it’s gonna be like a romantic comedy, since New Year’s eve is such a romantic evening.

Amy:  Yeah. I guess it’s a night with a lot of romantic possibilities, considering that you’re supposed to kiss somebody at midnight.

Devan:  Yeah, there’s all that anticipation before the countdown to New Year’s, you know, where you’re looking around the room if you’re single, and you’re like, “Who am I gonna kiss at midnight?”

Amy:  Yeah. So how do you like to celebrate New Year’s Eve?

Devan:  I usually have a really mellow New Year’s Eve. It’s still romantic, usually me and my boyfriend will stay at home and pop a bottle of champagne and watch the ball drop on television, you know. But we try to keep it mellow. I know a lot of people like to go out and go to parties, and get wild and crazy.

Amy:  Right.

Devan:  But I’m all about the intimate, romantic New Year’s, just with my man.

Amy:  Yeah, but then you can’t have the romantic comedy experience of, like, finding your love and, you know, just running into them by coincidence in Times Square or something, and having that first kiss that starts a whole lifetime.

Devan:  Wow, that does sound exciting. Maybe I’ll have to break up with my boyfriend before New Year’s.

Amy tells Devan about the new movie New Year’s Eve. It is a romantic comedy similar to Love Actually and Valentine’s Day. It tells the stories of several different couples’ experiences on a single night.

Devan thinks that New Year’s Eve is a romantic night. Amy agrees that it has a lot of possibility for romance, since one tradition is to kiss somebody at midnight. Some people like to go to big parties on New Year’s Eve, but Devan prefers to have a quiet, romantic night at home with her boyfriend.

How do you celebrate New Year’s Eve? Do you think New Year’s Eve is a romantic holiday?

. No worries Julito I have no problem answering  you.she was my adoptive mother, she had two kids of her own. she nurtured me from age 4-20, her son was the father figure in our home.Mind you he’s just 6 years older . I guess I’m a foster kid, but I never complained. I had a normal life.

One morning she woke me up, gave me breakfast  and I left for school…

school? No, I got on a plane to meet my biological mother. That caused a lot of stir.

but now my adoptive  mother and I are on good terms.

I lived 16 years in My adoptive mother’s house; but my real mother threw me out of her house after 9 months.

story of my life in a nutshell.

Snoopyboy,     If you don´t mind , let me ask you something personal , when you mention the word guardian, does it mean that you and your siblings were living in a foster home ?  sorry to ask .

julito,

that’s exactly what happens in my family. When my uncle comes up with “Hey, have I already told that one…”, we’re like “Oh-ho! Not again!”, then we force a smile of the size of the world and pretend we’re looking forward to hear it. But, well, it doesn’t last long, cause  the drinks starts to take effect and then he crashes on the nearest sofa in the room.

I never go to the municiple square to celebrate New Year’s EVA. In China, like cities in Captial cities, young people usually go to the square to get together to count down to meet the new year.. I will try to go to see if people will go to the square to count down in our city.

There was only one tradition we always try to follow every New Year’s eve.  It was in a way unique but not very joyful. So the rule was that everyone in the house should be awake to see the New Year. “The New Year would bring nothing but laziness and disappointment to you if it catches you sleeping, now Wake up!”  We all abided by this creed. (:  My sister and I hated to be forced out of bed at 11:50 Pm; my older brother didn’t mind it. The remaining 10 minutes we had to wait until midnight were the longest ever! Then at midnight exactly our guardian would drench everyone up with anything she had on hand that night: a bottle of champagne, wine, or even with fuzzy drinks. I kid you not. My sister and I would always look at each other and laugh, and of course we would sprint back to bed. Very simple celebration if one could call it that.

My family is now scattered all over the globe. I can tell you , the last time I got soaked with anything on New Year’s eve was five years ago. Five years since the last time, my siblings and I got together. And every year I would either call or video chat with my adoptive brother and sister and reminisce about our guardian’s New Year’s spraying craziness, we’d always laugh about it. So, every Christmas day, every New Year’s Eve, and any other event that are themed around family; always bring some kind of nostalgic memories to me. I realized, how important having a family is, how good it is to be with them. We should cherish every moment we spend with them, especially on occasions like New Year’s Eves, because let’s be honest ,where else would you rather be on that day than being with the ones you love?. Okay I know… So before you dash to the pub and drink yourself to near death, before you set that firework off. Spend a little time with them

Happy holidays, happy New Year to you and your loved ones.

What New Year’s Resolution are you going to break this year? Tongue out
