The way you dress can say a lot about you. But making sure your clothes are sending the right message can take a lot of time and money. That is, unless you just want them to say that you hate shopping.

For some, shopping for clothes is an exciting hobby. To them, it’s fun to try on different items and put together the perfect outfit. But others hate shopping for clothes and see it as a chore they just have to get through. Can you guess which of those groups Marni and Ella belong to?

Ella:  Shopping. I can’t get enough of it. I love being there physically, I love doing it online, I love sample sales. Just anything, all the time. Shopping.

Marni:  Oh my…really? Wow. You know, I really detest shopping. I just…oh my gosh, being in the stores with all the crowds. I hate it.

Ella:  Online. You can go online if you hate crowds.

Marni:  I also hate shopping online because you can’t try anything on, you don’t know if it fits, you don’t get a really good sense of what it looks like. It’s all terrible.

Ella:  I don’t know, I just…it’s just trying to find the next best thing. It’s like a challenge to go shopping, to find the best deal, the next hot trend. I love it. One thing I don’t do, I don’t try things on. I just kinda guess. I’d rather just buy it and have it not fit and return it than try something on.

Marni:  Wow. You are a serious shopahilic. You know, I kinda like to window shop. Like, I like to look at things in the window and see what’s cute, and then maybe if something really catches my eye I’ll go in, but I just feel like excessive shopping, it’s just such a waste of money.

Ella:  I just get so scared it’s gonna go away and I’ll never have a chance to get it again. I still remember this one ring I saw in Amsterdam that I wasn’t sure if I was gonna get, and ever since then I’ve decided to always buy everything I want.

Marni:  Wow. Well, I guess what I do is if I see something I like, I’ll go and I’ll think about it, and if I keep thinking about it, then I know that I really like it and really want it. But I rarely buy something on impulse.

Discussion

Go Super to Listen Go Super!

Ella loves shopping for new clothes, but Marni detests it. She doesn’t like shopping online because she can’t try on the clothes and make sure they fit. But she doesn’t like shopping in stores either, because she dislikes being in a big crowd. For her, shopping just isn’t fun.

Ella thinks shopping is a fun challenge. She loves trying to find good deals and new trends. The only part of shopping she dislikes is trying clothes on. So she just buys them without trying them on, and if they don’t fit, she takes them back to the store.

Do you like shopping for clothes? What is your favorite thing to wear right now?

I don’t really like shopping for clothes, it’s kinda boring. I like wearing large T-shirts, and I made some of my clothes, I prefer that.

Ola33    I really agree that you can get   a real  bargain at the thrift stores.  My cousing is a school  teacher  and  she has to change clothes daily , her budget  is limited  so she goes to the thrift stores and buys her outfits  for a few bucks. When her colleagues asked her:you  are gorgeous , where did you buy  the clothes  that you are wearing today ? , her casual response  was:  Ohh, at the boutique. And they believe her !!! lol.

Julito, that was a thrift store, yes. But, sometimes there you can find a real bargain. Plus, from time to time we’re getting calls from some organizations to donate what you don’t need. They just come in a certain day and pick up the bags.

How cute! Reading all those comments from guys stating their frustrations about women’s shopping extravaganza. Who are you kidding men! You can’t reason with them. Back when I was younger, one of my pastimes was to go out to the shopping mall and watch the frowns upon some guys’ faces who were forced to accompany some frenzied girlfriends on a shopping spree. Their potty faces reminded me of Paris Hilton’s poodle. I chuckled at the sight of some men who thought they could appease their martyrs and outwit their girls by saying “yes honey, this one is perfect I love it…can we go now?”Nice try buddy! Like Butta mentioned a guy opinion doesn’t really matter. Shopping for clothes, it’s like payback for a woman for having to cook and clean after you and your friends had stormed the living room after watching football or a fight on TV. How do I know all that? Well I once was this frustrated bellhop guy for many women. Yeah, once was… want to know my trick? Sorry ladies I have to help the men pact here. I found out that if you wear a stern look, not angry just a numb expression while escorting a woman on a shopping “nightmare”, she will eventually realize that you’re not enjoying it. She’ll try her best seductive tact to get you involved by trying on some rather skimpy clothes, lingerie and pantyhose (you love pantyhose on heels, you want to pounce her right in the store) but you don’t give in, you keep that stern look on, and shrug your shoulders whenever she asks for your opinion. She’ll find you lame as a shop buddy and the last thing she’ll need when she goes to shop next, would be you. (Applauses & bow). But there are times, I enjoyed being the miserable escort, you know…like when you think about all the craziness she has to go through , all the troubles she gives herself only to find the right dress to please you. After all you only want to look good for us , right ladies….errr right? Undecided

Oh, I almost forgot, the actual shopping for clothes dilemma is like a walk in the park compared to the pointless “window shopping”. I have no remedy for that guys, you just have to suck it up. I just want to throw a stone at anyone I catch window shopping, I HATE it! (:

Shopping is not something I adore. I like it and ı go shopping clothes when I feel it’s necessary but I really cannot understand when someone spends too long time in shopping centers looking the clothes or buying and buying. It’s not just wasting money it’s also wasting time and energy. I agree, it can make people feel relaxed but everything has its limits. I am not trying to judge anyone here and it’s not my business. So please don’t get mad because of my words, nobody. I am just explaining my ideas. Buttafly is right, maybe we will never understand why women adore shopping, at least I will never understand this. But I know it’s their nature. Their body start secreting adrenalin when they see clothes, especially shoes. Right. I am sure you also realized that first floor of the stores are genarally for women and men need to go upstairs or downstair to fin their floor and on the window you see women dress in general, at least in Turkey. because everyone knows women cannot stand against shopping, they just wanna guaranty their job:) I don’t like spending much time at shopping centers or in other places. Because I think my life is not long enough to waste it. I have many things to do much more important than shopping. But I am not saying shopping is not important. It is..

I’m trying this technique looking at my wardrobe and see what outfit gives me energy and which one doesn’t. It’s kind of Feng Shui philosophy to get rid of anything that doesn’t give you energy. One day, I gave away half of my wardrobe and then I was greatly in need for new items :)

Over the years, i had the possibility to visit many times my cousings living in  the US, the first visit I was so overwhelmed by the  huge malls and the quality and good price of the   clothes  that were sold there. But now, whenever I have the chance to go  to the mall ,I ask myself , how many shirts and pants do you need? you have already so many,  just have a look around  and  get out of here. Of course, women´ mindset is different .

I love shopping! And I’m just like Ella, fall in love with the item at first sight and buy it. If not, I’m having that item haunting me in my dreams saying,”buy me, buy me”, and then I go to the store, oops, the item’s gone. So, having those lessons, I just grab it and enjoy it. No regrets at all and no return. Shopping is fun.

I love shopping so much. It’s human nature to pursue beautiful things, right?Whenever I see something nice,I just can’t fight with the urges to buy and get it.I admit that shopping really takes a lot of time, energy and more importantly, money. But it is the process of seeking and finding that makes the whole thing enjoyable.Especially when you get a real bargin, you would feel it’s so worth the effort.

Cars, computers, other technique, football, hockey, politics etc – there are so many men’s interests vs the only one interest of women like shopping :)))) ( I”m joking of course, women have got much more subjects and interests to talk about :) )
