Pets are so sweet and cute, it can be hard not to spoil them. When your puppy looks at you with those big brown eyes, how can you not slip him a little people food under the dinner table?

But animals that get treated like royalty often behave like brats. It’s important to set boundaries with your pet so they learn how to behave. Amy is worried that she may be spoiling her puppy. Hear Ella give her some advice.

Dialog

Ella

Amy: I have a puppy at home, and I am really worried about spoiling her, you know? Nobody wants to spoil their pet.

Ella: I don’t know, my parents spoil their dog like crazy. She only drinks Evian water.

Amy: No, you’re kidding!

Ella: No, no.

Amy: Well that’s really over the top.

Ella: It is. I mean, what kind of things do you do with your dog?

Amy: I definitely…she never is allowed to have people food. She definitely drinks tap water. And I feel like I give her a reasonable number of treats, and she has to do tricks and everything before she gets them. I think I mostly just spoil her with love and affection. Like I just constantly, when I’m at home, just want to be petting her and cuddling her and stuff because she’s so cute and soft.

Ella: That sounds reasonable. You know, you have a pet, it’s kind of there for emotional comfort. I don’t know, I feel like my parents take it to another level with Coco.

Amy: Is their dog obedient?

Ella: Kind of, but my parents take her everywhere.

Amy: So do you think she’s spoiled rotten, or do you think she’s still a good dog?

Ella: Definitely spoiled rotten, but overall a good dog.

Amy has a puppy and is worried about spoiling her. Ella says that her parents spoil their dog. She hopes Amy won’t do the same.

Amy spoils her puppy by giving her lots of love and affection. Ella says that sounds reasonable. Her parents are much more over the top in the ways they spoil their dog. They give her expensive bottled water and take her with them wherever they go.

i love and i wish that i spoil not only the pet but all animal including lion and leapord and i know that is weard but they so cute when they a cub but that doesnt me that i dont love a pets except dog in particular the puppy

Pets can be trouble for me hhhhh, my sister has a cat and I think it is too annoying , I can’t stand the meaw meaw sound you know, though some people might say its so cute but I prefer not to have any, by the way I like snake lol, at least it is not too noise like a cat hhhhhhhh just hissing noise, not bad :D

AUL, so it’s really weird. But have you ever played with a puppy? I mean, a 2-month puppy? Maybe you could get used to dogs if you do it, since a puppy can’t do nothing at all :)

You know, I’m not afraid of turtles but… I don’t like playing with them. The feeling when they walks on your hand is so… uh! It gives me goose bumps!

Julito, hahaha, totally! My aunt probably would get his services but she’s broke :P However, I think Dara’s behavior it’s understandable: she stopped pleasing her owners coz she didn’t need to do that anymore, since she would gain whatever she wants whether being a good dog whether being a brat. Sad but true.

AUL, this fear that you have of dogs and cats is more like an irrational fear or it comes from a trauma, maybe in your childhood?

I’m very careful when it comes to cats because one once scratched me when I was 3 or 4 years old. It was scary and kinda hurt a lot :(

Hello, AUL, I agree that some dogs are life- threatening , specially when are wandering around without a leash - I will be afraid too – but ,como on, you were running away from a puppy or little doggie .I would have also laughed ,should I had seen you runnning to the metro….. hehehehe.

My aunt had 8 dogs, but Dara was the only one who was spoiled rotten. My aunt gave her everything she wanted or even what she didn’t need. The thing is that my aunt started to treat the dog as it was a human. She started to spend a lot on dog clothes, acessories, grooming, medicines, vet, and so on… until she got into huge debt. The dog also started to desobey her and act pretty agressive toward visits and, more recently, towards her owners.

Literally, the dog bit the hand that fed her ;)
