Pool parties. Root beer floats. Movies and pizza. Some of the best ideas come from taking two things that are already awesome on their own, and combining them.
The latest example? Concert cruises. These special voyages are perfect for diehard fans who love to vacation in the sun. On a concert cruise, you sail the seas with your favorite band. During the day you can hang out by the pool, swim in the ocean, or visit port towns. At night, there are live concerts with just you and your shipmates for the audience. Jason recently went on his first concert cruise. Hear him tell Marni about his experience.

Marni: I am a big fan of a big summer rock concert, and I hear the new thing is these concert cruises.
Jason: Definitely. That’s the new festival. Take all the bands, put them on a ship.
Marni: Tell me about it. I’m fascinated.
Jason: I’ve been on one. I’m gonna go on another one.
Marni: Really?
Jason: Yeah. The best part about it, really, is the fans.
Marni: OK.
Jason: Because you’re surrounded by people who are into the same music as you, so you immediately have something in common with all these people. And it’s not…it’s better than a festival, where there’s 60,000 people, you know? These are the most diehard fans of that thing, so they are just ready to eat, drink, and breathe that band for four days.
Marni: Yeah, definitely! I think the thing about festivals, too, is often there are so many bands that, you know, people are there for different bands, and it sounds like these cruises, it’s really more specific, like that headlining act is why you’re there.
Jason: Usually. At least one or two headliners, yeah. And you get to see them multiple times. And kind of nothing beats being in the water, in the Bahamas, in the ocean, while a band is playing on the beach. It’s pretty awesome.
Marni: Doesn’t sound terrible.
Jason: But it’s not cheap.
Marni: I was gonna say, it has to be pretty expensive.
Jason: Yeah. Definitely.

Discussion
Marni likes going to big concerts in the summer. She is interested in the idea of concert cruises.
Jason says concert cruises are the new summer music festival. He thinks they are better than regular concerts because the audience is smaller. Only people who really love a band will go on a cruise with them, so on a concert cruise you are surrounded by other people who are passionate about the same music as you.
The one drawback of concert cruises is the price. Jason says they are very expensive. On the other hand, you get to go to a concert and have a vacation at the same time.
Would you like to go on a concert cruise? Which band would you like to sail the seas with?
