Bravery comes in many shapes and sizes. It takes courage to do something daring or risky, like bungee jumping or sky diving. It takes a different kind of everyday courage to be a single mom or care for people in need. Police officers, fire fighters, and soldiers have to be brave all the time; it’s part of their job.

Which of these examples is the true meaning of the word “brave”? We all have our own ideas about what it means to be brave, and our own examples of people who we believe are truly brave.

The latest Pixar movie is about a fiery young princess who has to learn about the true meaning of bravery in order to save her kingdom from being destroyed. Hear Marni and Devan talk about this fun new movie, and about what being Brave means to them.

Marni:  Devan, have you heard about that new film Brave? It’s about this rebellious young princess and this weird eccentric old witch. And apparently they join forces to save a kingdom.

Devan:  That’s very brave of them.

Marni:  Exactly. I think it’s kind of an interesting concept, because it seems like the princess has to discover what the true meaning of bravery is. And it’s just sort of been making me think about, yeah, what is the true meaning of bravery?

Devan:   There’s different types of bravery. Like, in a moment, someone skydiving, to me that’s very brave because I’m afraid of heights.

Marni:  As am I. So yeah that definitely takes bravery.

Devan:   But I think that you’re very brave by being a teacher, because every day you have to come there, and children are depending on you for so much. So that takes a lot of internal bravery.

Marni:   Well, thanks! You know, I think you’re brave because you’re packing up and moving across the country, and that takes a lot of guts, too. And I know you’re going to be great and make new friends, but that takes bravery as well.

Devan:   What do you think is the most courageous thing you’ve ever done?

Marni:   Wow. I don’t think I’ve done it yet. Or I guess I’d like to think that I haven’t done it yet, because when I look back on my life, I don’t know that I’ve done anything really courageous.

Devan:   Well, I’m sure when the time comes, you’ll rise to the challenge.

Marni:  Thanks.

Marni tells Devan about Brave, a new film. The movie has gotten Marni thinking about the true meaning of bravery. Devan mentions an activity that she finds scary: skydiving. Because Devan is afraid of heights, she thinks that people who skydive are brave.

However, Devan also realizes that some types of bravery are smaller, or more internal. She thinks the fact that Marni is a teacher is very brave. And Marni thinks it’s brave that Devan is planning to move all the way across the country. In the end, Marni doesn’t think she’s done anything truly courageous in her life…yet.

How would you describe the true meaning of bravery? What are some brave things you’ve done? And if you’ve seen the new film, Brave, what did you think?

I don’t consider myself brave because I am afraid of deep water and hight;  I would never skydive etc.:) So I don’t like to run risks. I know a proverb: “Nothing ventured, nothing gained; fortune favours the bold.” Still I always think hard  before doing something.

I think bravery it’s something that is differente from person to person, because something that I’m afraid of and I’m brave to do that, to you it isn’t. I haven’t watched the movie yet, but I’d love to.

It’s difficult to give one definition fo the word bravery, because there are so many sides of it. You can be brave when you drive on a highway for the first time or when you help cease the fire. You can’t compare these two, but everyone of them was brave. So for me brave is someone who is courageous, who is ready to help another one in the prejudice of himself, who can change his life dramatically and not afraid of taking controversial decisions.

In Devan’s eye I would be a brave person, because I’m a teacher, but personally, I don’t think myself a brave person. But of course I have to overcome many challenges like every one of us in our everyday life.

I believe there several brave things I have done in my life. This winter I went skiing for the first time in Courchevel. And several years ago I moved to another country, which mad a great change in my life, but I like it a lot.

I didn’t watch the movie but i loved it and what i liked the most about it is this little girl who is so different, her different character grabed my attention, about bravery i don’t think you have to be a hero to be brave, for me the more you do simple, small and beautiful things the more you become a brave.

I’d describe the meaning of bravery as a risky situtation in our life, in which we are not prepared for that, but sometimes we have courage to do it.

The brave things that i have done are: to teach english to children and talk to my boss when there was a problem at the job. I was scary, but i did it!Wink

I agree with Marni and Devan that bravery is not only about daring feats as skidiving and bungee jumping, the spectrum  covers much more than we might think of. I remember the story of a young man in a ship that was sinking and gave his own life jacket to a woman who hasnt got one,Wow

I can not make a true definition of the notion of ” bravery” because the world has been invaded by coward people recently, at least that’s how it is in my country. However, I regard someone who “CAN LOVE ONE UNDAUNTEDLY AND FEARLESSLY” as a brave person!!! Guys, people are terrified of having down on somebody in the modern world, aren’t they???

There are two  quotes of unknown authors I’m more than agree with. :)

  1. “Sometimes just being yourself can inspire others to be brave enough to be themselves too”  ~ Unknown quotes

  2. “Being strong and weak is just the same thing; you’re brave to be strong and you’re also brave to show your weakness” ~ Unknown quotes

I will leave the review of “Brave” as soon as I will watch it. Wink
