The computer has made life faster, but sometimes we should all slow down. For invitations and awards, it’s better to use time-consuming calligraphy.

When you announce something special, you want it to stand out. And people will feel special because you wrote each of the squiggly strokes.

Learn Lily’s opinion about calligraphy in this English lesson.

No. I haven’t.  but I received many  hand-written letters when I was in college  ,as the same time I had written many letters with hand.

I never received and wrote letters since l left school.  But I usually write diary with hand. I like writing with pens. I love the feeling of writing on white papers.

I still like my own handwriting.

I have ever received a hand-wiritten invitation. It was a children’s party. The calligrahy was simple and wasn’t perfect. But was cute.

When I am studing, I prefer handwritten than a PC and my calligraph is good.

Jeff’s replies are uninspiring.  He does not explain well to Lily the important social meaning of calligraphy even in today’s e-everything world. Lily is acting hard here as clueless, we don’t need another clueless, who seems naturally so.

I deal with lots of them. Most of them relate to wedding invitation. Indeed they did not send specifically and directly to me bcz all of them invited my parents not including me unless in special cases. However i got some of these valuable piece of sheets as my certificated letters for presenting my papers at different conferences. Herein of course some people invite others with calligraphy letters for kinda big party.

Some of them look like really an amazing and over the top art treasure. Actually I love words that take parts in it much more than calligraphy form. BCZ bunch of them make very sense to me.

In my place, people still hand-write each invitation letter. My handwriting is not so good, but you must see my brother’s handwriting, it makes you feel like printed.

it’s a lost art, but it’s worth the effort)

it’s actually very nice that the person tries to hone every single letter to make you feel special) not a lazy computer printed stuff))

In my opinion it isn’t ok, that people almost don’t write by a pen nowdays. Computers have replaced a lot of things which people did by their hands before. Of course it’s more comfortable and that’s cool. But handwriting is good too.

I haven’t received any invitations, but I had some penfriends a few years ago. It’s really great to receive hand-written letters, aspecially with drawings and stickers in it ^^ And I like to write letters too)

Computers, email, smart phones are making our handwriting obsolete-a lost art. The only things that seems to get written down anymore is the grocery list tacked to the refrigerator. My handwriting was very poor  ,and of course i wasn´t satisfied  with myself that after going to school still  i hadn´t be able to master the art of writing  in an elegant way. Then what ?  i bought a fountain pen, ink  and a calligraphy book  and devoted  each day  to improve  my writing skills. To a large extent  i  must say that now  i write fairly well thanks to the writing exercises.  Yes, I agree with Jeff that  the people wanted to make the invitation special.

When I was in High School, my calligraphy was almost perfect! Everyone enjoyed staring at it for a while… They told me it looked like as if it was made on the computer.

As I’ve been only using my iDevices and my PC, it’s been a long time since I wrote anything by hand – except for my signature. Maybe I should work on it again so it doesn’t become a lost art! hahaha

Actually I m so crazy about the calligraphy.

Ppl now all resort  to depending on the computer in all the ways except the sex. They tend to spend more time with computer .Like the writer now ,they write and type infront of computer.Cant deny that it s more convinient in a way. But i still can get ride of the calligraphy.

Like the feeling when writing on the paper and hearing the sounds when the pen go walking on it.And the feeling of hand touching with the books. Its traditonal but feel inner peace and quiet.

yeah nowadays the pc makes relationship between people both close and far away, like on ebaby even we dont see eachother , we can meet friends from all over the world . but meanwhile, it seems that we have spent so many time on net  safaring ,playing games ,studying , or doing many other things that we dont have enough time to have dinner with parents , let alone sit down and chat with them .

besides, we’re losing something important and valuable . like calligraphy . it’s so easy and convenient to send an invitation or mail on net that most of people dont choose to do that by hand . including myself .

honestly, i love hand-writing very much . my friends said that my hand-writing look very good . i think so too . i practised hand-writing in high school .

actually in university i wrote letters by hand , also i received hand-writing letters from friends too . now i saved them in my box . sometimes i read them . it’s really memorable .

if now someone sends me a hand-writing letter . i’m sure i’ll be very excited . haha .

No, Odyssee, it’s not made by me. I think it’s just painted on canvas. Yes, it’s a beautiful project with drawing and lettering. The compliment to the creator of it.

Absolutely, calligraphy is the lost art. I’ve been aiming and trying my hand at it for a long time. It’s not that easy, but with practice, the skill will stay. I use it for resolutions, for ideas that inspire you. They’re beautifully perfomed and you want to come back to them and read it many many times. It’s quite eye-candy. I think calligraphy is liked also by those who like drinking teas. It’s a part of Chinese art and kind of meditation. And it traines as well drawing skills. It can be used for many projects, like making a small book - fairy tale, or just writed to someone Happy Birthday or Thank you.
