What happens when a car mechanic and his daughter discover a secret? They bring the world of Transformers after them in the fourth movie, Transformers: Age of Extinction, starring the line of creatures who transform.

Originally cartoons, the Transformers have been around for more than 30 years! In this movie, the invasion happens on Earth. Some fans may have already figured out who will get beat: humans or Transformers. But even if you know, you might still want to watch the movie.

Gary’s a big Transformers fan. Has he convinced Marni to watch the new Transformers movie with him? Find out in today’s movie English lesson.

Marni

Gary: So, Marni, are you a Star Wars fan?

Marni: Yes. Absolutely.

Gary: Are you a Transformers fan?

Marni: I find them interesting, but I wouldn’t say I’m a fan. I sort of watch them and I cringe.

Gary: I grew up with them in the 80s.

Marni: Of course.

Gary: Watching the cartoons.

Marni: Right.

Gary: Loved them. Optimus Prime, awesome leader.

Marni: Yeah. Every boy loves Optimus Prime.

Gary: How could you not?

Marni: Right.

Gary: Now in the new Transformers movie…

Marni: Yes.

Gary: Age of Extinction…

Marni: Right.

Gary: ... we’ve got a dinosaur.

Marni: That threw me for a loop when I saw that trailer. Now is that an original Transformer?

Gary: It is. His name is Grimlock.

Marni: OK.

Gary: And then we’ve got some big invasion happening.

Marni: So, walk me through it. The Decepticons. Tell me, they’re sort of like the rivals to the Transformers?

Gary: So they’re the bad guys.

Marni: Right.

Gary: Then we have the Autobots, who are…

Marni: Autobots, right. OK.

Gary: ... the good guys. Though it seems like, in this movie, all the Transformers are going to somehow get beat by humankind. I guess we’ve figured out how to stop them. I’m thinking of going to see it.

Marni: All right. You’ve convinced me.

Gary is asking Marni about the famous movie series she likes. She says she’s a fan of Star Wars, but she isn’t crazy about Transformers.

However, Gary loves the Transformers. He watched the cartoons when he was a kid, and he’s definitely excited about Transformers: Age of Extinction. Marni may not be a huge fan, but she knows a couple things about the Transformers. She’s not sure who’s good or bad, though.

Gary helps Marni out with the basics. The Autobots are good. The Decepticons are bad. But in this movie, it looks like both groups will also fight with humans. Marni’s interested in Gary’s explanation. In fact, she agrees to go see the movie with him.
