If you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, one of the first things you will need to do is get water. You cannot survive very long without water, but it’s important to make sure the water you drink won’t make you sick. It’s a good rule of thumb to only drink from water that is moving, like from a river or stream.

A rule of thumb is an easily understood general way of doing something. A rule of thumb may not be completely reliable, but they are easy to use if you have no better option. The expression comes from the fact that the distance from the end of your thumb to the first bend is about an inch. It won’t be completely accurate if you measure things with your thumb, but it’s often good enough.

Singer Amy Lee says that her rule of thumb is to only make music that she enjoys making. She might be able to make more money or get more fans if she changed her style, but she just likes making music the way she wants to.

What rule of thumb do you use most often?

My rule of thumb that I often use is cooking. I usually use garlic, gunger and onions as the base for most of my dishes. These taste so good with any sauces.

As a rule of thumb i rarely open a mail if i don`t know who the sender is. Needless to say that in internet  there are many truths, also there are  a lot of  apparently harmless emails, but in reality   are full of deception,  mascarading as good guys ,that ultimately   are intent upon ripping you off of your hard earned money .

Although I’ve never listened to Amy Lee’s music so far but I like her attitude towards making the kind of music that she really enjoys and not being obsessed by fame and fortune. That is a great rule of thumb.

There is a Persian proverb that says “if words come out of the heart, they will enter the heart.” It means if you say something from the bottom of your heart with such a great passion and satisfaction, it surely will touch people’s hearts too. But if words come from the tongue, they will not pass beyond the ears and they wouldn’t charm anyone.

I listen to folk music from all around the world although I don’t understand the languages of music but some of these music really intoxicate me probably because the music came right out of the composer’s heart so it will touch my heart too and it doesn’t matter that I don’t understand the language, it is above all languages “if words come out of the heart, they will enter the heart.” and probably stay there forever.
