Intro
Pompeii was a city in ancient Rome that was completely buried in ash after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79. During the time of the eruption, there were about 11,000 people living in Pompeii. Residents of Pompeii were caked in falling ash. This caused many of them to be mummified. These preserved bodies are a popular museum display. We have been able to learn a lot about ancient Rome through these mummified remains.
