2. Use - Learn how the slang is used.

The verb “to trip” has numerous uses. The most common way it’s used in conversation is when people say things like:
“I was _trip_ping out.”
(I was feeling really weird.)
“Don’t trip out on me.”
(Don’t act weird around me.)
“Jeff was totally _trip_ped out last night.”
(Jeff was acting very strange last night.)
In all of these cases, “to trip” means to act weird, or to think strange thoughts.
The word can also be used like this:
“That movie was _trip_py.”
(That movie was strange. It made me feel weird.)

The origin of this word (as far as I know) has to do with drugs. When a person takes drugs, s/he usually acts weird. His/her mind leaves the normal world and “goes on a trip.”
