Every year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gives awards to the best movies and best performances in movies. The awards, called Oscars, honor filmmakers and actors who create magnificent motion pictures. The awards show is always a lot of fun to watch because it’s fun to see if the movies you liked the most win the biggest awards.
Listen to Josh and John discuss this year’s Oscar Nominations.

Josh:  John, I heard the Oscar Nominations came out.

John:  Yeah, I saw that last night. What are the five movies? I think it’s The Pianist, Gangs of New York, Lord of the Rings...

Josh:  The Hours and Chicago.

John:  Have you seen any of those?

Josh:  I saw Chicago, uh, just a couple nights ago and I saw Lord of the Rings right when it came out.

John:  How were those? I didn’t see either of ‘em.

Josh:  They were both really enjoyable. I’m glad they got nominated for Best Picture.

John:  What was your favorite of the two?

Josh:  Oh, that’s hard. I think Chicago was more… original maybe.

John:  I saw Gangs of New York. It was pretty good.

Josh:  Yeah – I’ve heard it was good. I guess what I like about the Best Picture nominations is, you know, the ones I’ve seen I really liked, so I bet I’ll like all the other ones too. So I have to get out to the theater and see those.

John:  When is the award show?

Josh:  You know, I have no idea. Maybe in a month?

John:  Well let’s try to see the ones we haven’t before that happens.

Josh:  That sounds like a good plan.

Discussion

It sounds like John and Josh are both excited about watching the Oscars. Neither of them seems to have a favorite movie, but they’re still interested in seeing who wins. My favorite is definitely Chicago. I don’t think any of the other movies has a chance!
I’m excited about watching the Oscars this year, but more so for the fashion than the awards. The Academy Awards are always amazing to watch, because so many movie stars are there in their most beautiful and interesting clothes. I love to see the women in gorgeous dresses and the men in exquisite suits and tuxedos.
