Street hopes to someday have the chance to redeem himself and does get that chance when team commander Dan “Hondo” Harrelson (Samuel L. Jackson) is assigned to recruit and train five top-notch officers for a new Special Weapons and Tactics unit. After weeks of training, the new S.W.A.T. team is assigned to escort a drug kingpin out of Los Angeles, which proves to be a difficult endeavor.

Miguel:  Hey Beth, are you gonna see that movie S.W.A.T.?

Beth:  I’m not sure. I saw the previews and I saw LL Cool J on the Today Show this week and, I don’t know, I’m not necessarily sold on seeing it, but the cast looks pretty good, so I might end up going.

Miguel:  What did, uh, LL Cool J have to say about it?

Beth:  He was talking about the U.S. S.W.A.T. enforcement teams and how much work they have and how dangerous their jobs are, and he was really an advocate for police and S.W.A.T. teams in general. And he was showing off his abs and talking about how hard it was to get in shape for the film, and stuff like that.

Miguel:  So all of that stuff still didn’t sell you on the movie though?

Beth:  No. I mean the cast is cool – Colin Farrell is the star and Samuel L. Jackson is in it – so, it could be cool, but I don’t know, that film just doesn’t really appeal to me.

Miguel:  It seems like they just keep coming out with these same cop, shoot ‘em up movies – they always have the same story, but people keep going to see ‘em. They must be making money, I guess. That’s why they keep making ‘em.

Discussion

I don’t get too excited about these cops and criminals kind of movies. Like Miguel said, they all seem to have the same story. I feel like I’ve watched the same movie about 50 times.
However, my husband did see S.W.A.T. and he thought it was really good. He liked the action and said that the characters were very interesting. He thought it was much better than other movies in same genre.
See you at the movies!
