Spring is a good time for people who love movies. Many good films are released in the spring, because filmmakers don’t like to compete with the Academy Award winners and nominees that are available in January and February.
This spring is no exception. Several good films are currently available, including Jersey Girl, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Ladykillers, 50 First Dates, Hellboy and Starsky & Hutch.
Miguel wants to see a movie this weekend, but he’s having trouble deciding what to see. Listen to his conversation with Beth to hear which films he’s considering.

Miguel:  Hey Beth, I’m thinking about seeing a movie this weekend. Have you heard of anything that’s good?

Beth:  Not really. I mean, I know that there are some new films out like Jersey Girl and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Miguel:  Yeah, that’s right. Those two are definitely on my list, and I was also thinking about Ladykillers with Tom Hanks. Have you heard anything about that one?

Beth:  Oh yeah. I saw the preview for that one. Isn’t it set in like an earlier period of history?

Miguel:  Yeah. It looks that way from the costumes. I really have no idea what it’s about. It seems kind of mysterious. But, I don’t know how to choose. I’ve heard a lot of good things about that Eternal Sunshine movie. So, I’m not… I don’t know what to see.

Beth:  Well, you could probably eliminate Jersey Girl because we know that it’s going to probably be another cutesy movie with Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler and we’ve seen those before.

Miguel:  Yeah, but the one thing it has going for it is that it’s directed by Kevin Smith, who, you know, made, like, Clerks and Mallrats and stuff. And I’m a fan of his, so…

Beth:  So which one is it?

Miguel:  I guess we’ll see. I’ll let you know next week.

Discussion

I haven’t seen any of the movies Miguel wants to see, but if I was making the choice, I’d definitely pick Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Several of my friends have seen it and they all say it’s one of the best movies they’ve ever seen. Jim Carrey apparently gives a fantastic performance.
See you at the movies!
