LISTENING

-          Listening to the radio.

-          Watch movies, choose ones with subtitles.

-          Watch English TV, choose program that you would enjoy in your own language but remember that much of what your hear on TV is slang.

-          Use internet listening resources: everyday listen to English online.

SPEAKING AND PRONUNCIATION

-          Talk to yourself. Talk about anything and everything. Do it in the privacy of own home. If you can’t do this at frist, try reading oout loud untill you feel comfortable hearing your own voice in English.

-          Record your own voice. This might feel very comfortable, but it will help you find your weak pronunciationpoints. Listen to yourself a few days later. Which counds do you have difficulty hearing?

-          Participate in class.

-          Understand the sounds that your language doesn’t have. For example, many language don’t have the “r” sound. These sounds require extra practice.

-          Recognize that teachers are trained to understand you. When you get out into the real world. Average people will have a more difficult time understanding you unless pratise speaking slowly and with proper pronunciation.

-          Practise minimal pairs, study word and sentence stress, learn common idioms.

READING AND VOCABULARY

-          Read something everyday: Children’s books, simplified readers (Penguin), newspapers, magazines, internet sites, novels, and much more …

-          Read what interests you: Remember that you learn better when you’re having fun.

-          Read at the appropriate level: you want to learn new vocabulary, but you also want to understand what you are reading. If you are looking up every word, the reading is too difficult.

-          Always an English – English dictionary nearby.

-          Record vocabulary in a personal dictionary: keep this notebook separate from other work, record vocabulary in alphabetical order.

WRITING AND SPELLING

-          Keep a diary/journal: Don’t always pay attendion to grammar. Free-writing can be very useful. It can show you that writing is fun. Have fun with the language.

-          Write emails in English: Stay in contact with teachers or other students.

-          Rewrite your local news in English: This is another exercise that can be done on a daily basis. Remember that regular activities are the best ones.

-          Learn important spelling rules: Remember, you won’t always have a dictionary or a spell-checker handy, especially when you are writing a test. Even native English speakers need to review the spelling rules from time to time.

-          Learn commonly misspelled words, learn common English errors.

This is my way may be useful for everybody improve English and hope you use English good in your life!

Hello! How do you do .I am new.you are the fist friend of me.I am a student.my english is very bad.I hope to study with you .

December 12, 2007

Many people said with me : “ difficult to study English, what’s way talk to foreigner if you don’t know English?”.

According to my friend: “learning a new language is like learning a whole new way of communicating. And it really is because no matter how similar two languages may be, their differences always outnumber their similarities. When one learns a new language, he or she not only learns a new way to communicate through writing, reading and speaking, but also it is very often a new way of thinking. But with anything, perfection comes with practice, so no matter how much difficulty i have in learning a new language, i can always overcome them with time and practice”.

How about you? What are you think about English? Share with me your comment……..

Hi Shiloh,

One must put in mind before and while learning a new langauge some few things. Language is not only COMMUNICATION. It is more than that! It is a part of a new culture, values, and believes. Acquiring a new language might and might not change people. It depends on the individual. For me the way I'm learning English is like I'm taming a horse !!! I have been successful to moderate the way I am using my English in a way that suits my background and believes. For example I don't use the word "Jesus!!" when I'm surprised hehe 'cause its against my values as a Moslem to take refuge in someone but Allah. The point is, we as different people from different places are unique because we are different and learning another language must not change us -> but only for the good :)

The other point is whither English is a hard language to learn. Well, I believe "My opinion" that it depends on the learner in many ways.

English would be easy if:

1-     The sounds of English exist in the mother tongue.

2-     Most of English alphabets exist in the mother tongue.

3-     English is used as a second language in your country.

4-     You have a strong motive to learn English.

5-     It is easy for you get access to English learning materials and aid.

6-     You like English in a whole (language & culture).

7-     You surround yourself with English (friends, movies, music, books...etc)

8-     You learn English by mixing fun and optimism with learning.

9-     You eliminate fear and practice your English both in writing & in speaking.

* If you possessed the first two points and another two from the rest of the seven points, learning English will not be so difficult and it would be hard if it were the opposite.

Chandelier prisms make beautiful icicle ornament for your Christmas tree! Coat a faded glass ball ornament with glue, roll in glitter or golden dust and hang to dry! Instant sparkle!            Buy clear glass Christmas bulbs and fill with potpourri, sparkles or your own creative idea. Top with colored ribbon, pearl beads and tiny ribbon silk flowers. Tuck bunches of fresh/dried babies breath in the braches. Other dried flowers work nicely!String popcorn and cranberries together. It is easier if you let the popcorn sit for 24 hours and use dental floss. Buy several different kind and sizes of ribbons, make bows and drape them through the tree like garland.Use fabric strips to make bows and give your tree a homespun/country feel. Make gingerbread shapes to use as ornaments. Dried apples and oranges make beautiful garlands or ornaments.Spray gold paint on pinecones to give an elegant touch. Buy small lace doilies, put them in a solution of glue and water, let dry. This will stiffen them so they can hang like snowflakes on the tree. Make several theme trees and put them around the house (any size will do) and use your creativity and imagination coming up with different and unusual themes!           Wish you have a beautiful Christmas trees!
