Hello friends,

many of you have asked about the difference between SEE LOOK and WATCH in this lesson i will try and explain a little bit what the differences are.

SEE: We use this to talk about the ability. When your eyes are open you can see. There is nothing special.

Examples:

I can see your house from here.

    I saw your car outside.

    I have seen this picture.

LOOK: We use look to suggest a direction for your eyes ... to look at something. Usually we use this when the thing we look at doesn't move (like a picture but not movies).

Examples

    Look at this picture.

We were looking at the paintings in a museum yesterday.

I like to look at the sky at night and see lots of stars.

Watch: We use watch when we talk about concentrating on something. Like a movie or sports.  Using watch means there is a movement so you can use that for TV or movies.

Examples

I watch Friends everyday on TV.

I watched the football game last night.

I like to sit on a patio and watch people walk by.

i hope this short lesson helps you understand the difference between the verbs SEE, LOOK, and WATCH.

Please write a comment to let me know if this was a good lesson or not :)

Happy learning and have a great day.

I believe that it's a good think of you sir to dedicate your short free tine in offering help for internation English speakers in This E-baby's Online ENglish Practise Community... When a pleasure of someone emerges from helping people, it's easily deduce that this person is nothing but generous and tender. Such a person is scarcely found nowadays, and I believe sir, that in spite of this painful fact, there is still someone who has that sence of giving and selflesness instead of the negatove sence of selfishness. Finding you doing that frequently and circularly really cheers me up! discovering a person who I assume good enough to be a frind of "me" makes me happier and happier...So I guess, you dis recieve the message...can we be friends sir?:):)...I'd be grateful..and to know about me...I am Ahmad, a 17 year old guy from Iraq but a resident of the UAE...I'll hopefully be in colleg this January...Thanks in advance:):)...TAke care sir and looking forward for your response. Hey... Great job. The examples and explanations are very useful and clear. The difference between see, watch and look is a common question for English students.

Very usefull!!!

Sometime i teach my students and they ask me some similar questions, such as: what is different between  see and look and watch or between go and come...etc

Even they are not so difficult but sometime i feel a-little bit complicated to explain to them in the easiest way to understand.

Thanks so much for sharing those with us!

Hi all,

Today we will look at a few idioms.  I will start by giving you some meanings and then a text where you can see the idioms used in context.

Make money hand over fist: To make a lot of money

work one's butt (ass) off: work very hard and long hours

Get the sac: to be fired from a job

Rat race: intense competition for success in business

pay someone peanuts: give the person a small salary for a big job

********************************************

John was 35 years old and for the past 8 years he had worked at an insurance company.  Yesterday he got the sac because his boss was no longer happy with him.

For 8 years he had worked his butt off in a small office while his boss and superiors made money hand over fist while paying John peanuts.

John was tired of the rat race and wasn't working as hard the last week he was there.  His Boss didn't like the fact that John wasn't working as hard as before and gave him the sac.

 *******************************************

Now your turn ... what does the last idiom in the story mean.

Let's see who gets it first ... have fun learning and as always, never be afraid to ask questions.

Ok we have a winner ... please read the comments for the second part of the lesson :)

kimisue is the winner ... nice work dude!

Ok now the second part of the challenge for everyone.

This is for advanced students ... Ii want you to write  story with the idioms you learned in this lesson and send them to me.

For lower level students try to use them in a simple sentence so you can understand how they work.

Good luck to you all ... and everyone who tries is a winner, just for trying and learning Wink

Thanks Sam !

Plz tell me about the difference between "hope" and "wish". I asked u before but maybe U forgot it.

Thank in advance.

Ok here we go,

The difference between Wish and Hope .... Usually in English we use hope for something that is or can be real, like the following example:

I hope my football team wins this game (they are playing right now so it's possible that they can win the game).

Wish is used for things that are almost or completely impossible.  Here is an example:

I wish I still had all my hair Tongue out (I am losing my hair as I get older and there is no way to get it back, it is an impossible situation

Ok Now it's up to you ... send me example sentences and we will see if they are good or not.

Have a great day and always try to learn something new everyday.
