This year I have two New Year's resolutions.

1: Acquire the skills necessary of system engineer. I get into a Systems Development Corporation from this April. I know few program languages. For example, PERL, JAVA, HTML...(I know somewhat less than perfect.)
However, in the company, infrequently-used those program languages. So I learn skills necessary for system engineer.

2: I must decide a new residence. Now I live in a student dormitory, so I must move to a new residence in up to the middle of March. Nowadays I laden with criteria for choosing a residence...

I keep at a task from this April.

Country Report

For this report I researched about Turkey, for I became interested in the country after I read Wikipedia saying that Kushimoto-town (it is near my hometown) has friendly relations with Turkey since distress of Ertugrul Firkateyni.

I asked two questions to a couple of Turkish people. The first question asks what they will do if I go to their county; the second question is what you would like to do if you visit Japan. Eight people responded to my questionnaire. I got 9 people to my questions.

First, I asked them what they recommend to me if I go to Turkey.

For sightseeing, many people recommend visiting Ankara and Istanbul. These are the

standard places for sightseeing, and the places where I want to go.

On the other hand, some people suggested other places to me such as Erzurum, Cappadocia, Kusadasi and Ephesus etc. Among them, I want to visit Erzurum and Ephesus, because Erzurum is the hometown of my Ebaby friend. I want to visit Ephesus since it has a long history and I want to its traditional row of house.

For food, many people recommended Kebab to me. Of course, we can eat Kebab in Japan. But I've never eat it, so I want to real Kebab in Turkey. In addition, they introduced Iskender doner, Siskebab, Borek and Piping hot Sahlep etc. to me.

For souvenirs, they told me Blue Eye, Carpets and Kilims, Leather Clothing, Pottery, Rosary, Jewelry and Copper Ornaments etc. are popular souvenirs of their nation. I wonder what Blue Eye is so I look for it when I visit Turkey in the future.

For good points of Turkey, many people said, "Turkish people are very hospitable, friendly, helpful as Japanese people.” I felt a bit embarrassed by their responses.

Next, I asked them what they want to do if they come to Japan.

l         For places that they want to visit:

Some people want to visit Tokyo, because it is the largest city in Japan and its capital. Other people answered that they want to visit a museum, Imperial Palace, and typical Japanese village in countryside, and so on. I predict that they are interested in places which are closely related to Japanese culture and history.

l         For Japanese food that they want to eat:

They said that they want to try sushi, soba, yakitori, gyoza and udon. However, few people replied that they do not want to eat seafood such as sashimi. They might haven’ t eaten raw fish in their country so they do not like it.

l         For souvenirs that they want to buy:

I was surprised that some of them wanted to buy kimono. Although I think that it is a good choice, since it is usually very expensive—it might be more expensive than their travel expenses--, so I recommended to them buying kimono at a second-hand shop or so-called B-tan market selling kimono at a low price instead. But, most of them are not interested in buying souvenirs.

l         For the season that they want to visit:

Among various answers, what I found the most interesting is the answer saying that he/she does not have any intention to visit Japan in a particular season because Japan has a dramatic change every month. I agree with his/her opinion. We have the cherry blossoms in spring, festivals in summer, red and yellow leaves in autumn and beautiful scenery in illuminated town in winter. So I am sure that they will enjoy our country even if they come in any season.

Three out of nine people replied to the second question. I am glad to know that everyone have interests in out country.

I am going to enjoy my future trip to Turkey taking the results of this survey into consideration. I appreciate their cooperation.

Note: I do not necessarily write all of the questions that I asked in my questionnaire on this report.

A comparative report on capital cities of Turkey and Japan.
Use google map:
Similarities
・ Use same traffic sign, parking prohibition sign.

・ Many similar types of car.
・ Fixed-wire and telephone pole on the ground. (Some countries, underground them)

・ Both capitals have many apartment.

・ Turkey's isolated houses look like Japanese ones.

・ Many drivers park a car on the road.

Differences
・ Most turkish house roofs are brown.

・ Ankara has more dead end than Tokyo.
・ Ankara has very few tall structures unlike Tokyo.

・ I'm not found a river in Anakara. It appears most likely that it has only a groundwater origin.

・  The shapes of traditional houses in Turkey are quite different from Japanese ones.

・ I found that there are few lines separating traffic lanes on the roads in Turkey. Because of this Turkish people will pay closer attention to other drivers and they give way to each other.

Interesting things:
Turkey

・Turkey was founded in1923 by atraturk after the war of independence.

・The town with great views of ancient-looking street because Ankara has few tall structures.

・I'm interested in Atakule Tower. Atakule Tower is a 125m high communications and observation tower located in the Cankaya district of central Ankara, Turkey, built in 1989. The top section of the tower houses an open terrace and a revolving restaurant, "Sevilla". It makes a full 360 degrees rotation in one hour. On top of it there's the "Dome" restaurant, right under the cupola. Under the terrace there's the "UFO" cafe.

Japan
・Recent prime ministers used to play at a shrine for Japanese solders, including dead war criminals.

・In the late 13th century, Mongolians from China tried to invade Japan twice, but they could not.

・This new contact with Europeans and Americans changed the Japanese culture.
