Tragic news: Today the German newspaper “Focus” reported that in this country a gentleman wanted to catch some crabs that were supposed the next meal of his eleven children. He died when he didn’t see the crocodile that was approaching him in the dirty water of this river. Things already looked bad for his family when this gentleman was still alive, but now – with their primary source of money and food gone – the family is at the lowest point they could possibly be. Instead of learning for school the children now may have to work a little more just to get by. Instead of taking care of her children and avoiding accidents that could happen in any household with still young and unexperienced children, the mother now will have to spend most of their time working to nourish her children. However the really sad thing is that this could have been avoided: If the economy of East Timor was a bit better, the father perhaps would have gotten a better job and wouldn’t have had to catch his family’s meals. Food would be much cheaper than it is now and even for the poor it would be a lot easier to achieve the meals they have in any food store there. Even if this person still had been so poor that he would have had to live on crabs, he perhaps would have been better educated, which means that he perhaps would have known how to avoid this tragic incident. He just would have had a better knowledge of the ecological system lake and of reptiles like crocodiles.
