How do you describe yourself? Fun exercise and new words!

Hi everyone!

This exercise is a great opportunity to learn some new words to describe yourself and other people.

Be completely honest with yourself while you complete this exercise. Think about who you REALLY are as a person and choose the words that best describe you.

For each pair of words, choose the one that truly describes your personality.

For example, are you an adventurous person or a careful, cautious one? Do you like taking trips without doing extensive planning or do you need to make exact plans? Do you want to sky-dive or bungee jump or does the idea terrify you? Would you rather stay at home and read a book instead?

This is a fun exercise that will also teach you some new words. Do you know what it means if a person is aloof? Socially progressive? If not, look it up to find out which words describe YOU!

(If you’re wondering, I am a cautious person who is never aloof and I am also socially progressive!)

1.                adventuresome or cautious

2.                affectionate and caring or aloof and distant

3.                aggressive and dominant or passive and submissive

4.                agreeable or argumentative

5.                ambitious and energetic or relaxed and carefree

6.                artistic and creative or scientific and practical

7.                calm or high strung

8.                communicative or quiet

9.                competitive or laid back

10.            socially conservative or socially progressive

11.            courageous or timid

12.            efficient and frugal or free with money and wasteful

13.            generous or stingy

14.            gregarious and outgoing or shy and introverted

15.            independent and self-confident or dependent and reliant on others

16.            impatient and demanding or patient and calm

17.            jealous or unpossessive

18.            lazy or hard-working

19.            optimistic or pessimistic

20.            organized or disorganized

21.            outspoken and forthright or tactful and diplomatic

22.            persistent or quick to bail out when things get tough

23.            quarrelsome or easy to get along with

24.            trusting or suspicious

25.            playful or serious

Hi Ryo. I understand. Perhaps I was in a bad mood that day. As an ESL teacher, I know that sometimes things don’t come out quite right when people are searching for words. You are obviously a very sensitive person; I noticed that today as I read your comment on the new lesson. It was very good – wondering WHY someone is cheating rather than just focusing on the cheating. It’s a good point, but there are a few reasons why that is not always possible.

Anyhow, I think you mean to say that you’re complex, and not compound…and that makes really good sense.

Sorry if I was “grumpy” that day! We are all human and have bad days.
