Ask Ebaby! Teachers Go Super!

Self-conscious

Dear Teacher,

          How are you?

May I ask what the meaning of "self-conscious" is? For example, "He is self-conscious about his pronunciation".

I've been aware that when we are speaking English. We have to do it like a rhythm; give a high pitch in the most important word in the sentence then gradually come down. I'm wondering when we are on the way down, how should we stress in each syllable. For example, "I really like his pronunciation". If we go up in the word "really" then should we go up again when we have to stress the fourth syllable of the word "pronunciation"?

Thank you very much. Please have a nice day.

Hi!

"Self-conscious" means you're aware of something about yourself and worried or embarrassed about it

In English, we usually stress the second-to-last syllable of words. Which words we stress in a sentence depends on which idea is the most important. There isn't a general rule about that.

Thanks for your question!
