Could you kindly tell me the difference among "on the weekend", "this weekend", "over the weekend" and "on weekends"?

"On the weekend" and "on weekends" are both used to talk about weekends in general. For example, we might say "What do you like to do on the weekend?" or, "I usually have to work on weekends."

 

"On the weekend" and "over the weekend" are more often used to talk about a specific weekend, usually the one that is about to happen or has just happened. For instance, we might say, "Are you doing anything fun over the weekend?" or "I have to go visit my grandmother on the weekend."

Hi again!

I forgot to tell you about "this weekend." That always refers to the weekend that is about to happen. For example, on Thursday I might ask "What are you doing this weekend?" If I say this, I mean the Saturday and Sunday that are two days away.
