Knock yourself out

In the lesson Tag Along

When Lily agreed that Jeff could tag along, Mason said :”Knock yourself out, kiddo.”

What’s this mean? “Knock yourself out”? The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary says it means to make yourself very tired. Knocking out is synonymous to working out. However, the Urban Dictionary says something totally different – Equivalent to “go for it”. What’s it mean here when Mason said Knock yourself out?

When Mason said, “Knock yourself out,” he meant, “Go for it!” This expression is used to give someone permission to do something, usually with the understanding that the person doing the action will have fun or enjoy doing it.

Best,
