With the power of the internet, I have been able to get in touch with relatives that I have never met. Our common last name is basically all that connects us. This year, I have taken special interest in finding out more about who my family is and creating a family tree.

These days, especially in the United States, it's easy to go online and go to a website and put in your name, and then right there in front of you is your family tree. Since almost all Americans are from immigrant families, our family trees often span across the globe. I have started to track down my own family tree. Your family tree is chart of who is related to whom. It's fun to know where our family members are. If you go to where ever they are in the world, then you are not alone, especially since you have family there.

I started to contact people with my last nime via a social media website and asked them to start to put their family history down in a email. I asked them to go as as far back as they can go. Personally, I only know of my grandfather and I don't know if he had brothers or sisters. So I stop right there.

Do you think it is a good or bad idea to get in touch with people that have your last name? It's like contacting a stranger, and your name is your only connection. How many family members do you know you are related to? How many people do you know in your family?

I can't wait to share what I find out about my family. Right now, I have contacted 60 people with my last name, and I am interested to see what will come out of it.

As a last bit of information, last year I was able to find out through a latin expert, that my last name, Acelar, means "fast." Acelar is related to the word "accelerate." Both come from the Latin "accelerātus," wich means to go faster. I am very proud to have a great and original last name!

 Hello!!! Yea family tree is a great thing... but i live in Ukraine and its hard to find people via netprogramm But I asked my grandparents and great-grandparent about my relatives and I created such a good family tree... I like to keep in touch with all my relatives ; it's not difficult today tnx to  face book and so on... i think its good to know  your relatives:)

it must be very interesting to find your relatives. My surname is Senohrábková  Smile,it means  to make hay Laughing! And I have allergy for hay so it´s a little bit ironic to have such a name !

Wow, it's beautiful out today. Today has been called the warmest day of 2010 so far. How exciting for summer to be here. I am pretty weird about heat though. When I lived in the Philippines, my fear was to sweat and to be hot. That's why I love where I live. Yes, it does get hot--but not so hot that i have to worry about being covered in sweat. I would have to say, I believe that I have perfect weather.

What do most people do when it is nice out? For me, it depends on what mood I'm in. I usually sleep. I like the sun, but I get lazy. It's a weird mix. Because when it rains, I have the desire to clean!

I like being at the beach and riding Jet Skis. I love to scuba dive and I want to learn how to surf. I can't wait to Scuba dive again. Being in the water and the sun makes me happy.

It's amazing that just a small thing like a day being sunny can change everyone's mood from gloomy to happy.

Recently, I was approached by an old friend who said, “I haven’t seen or heard from you in a long time, why didn’t you contact me?” I responded, “Why haven’t you contacted me?”

Then we had a long conversation about friends. Who are we obligated to stay in contact with and who are the ones we just let go until we reconnect again? Do we have friends out of convenience because of where we work? Or do we search for people to like us and then they become their friend? It was so much easier in our younger days, people became friends just by running in to one another. Now, we have to worry about who we trust in telling anyone any personal details. We have to worry about someone who gets too close, and worry about who we lend anything to.

As some of you know, I have had 4 different lives I have lived so far.  Two (which I will mention here) of which are polar opposite.  First, is the celebrity life I lived in the Philippines, while the second, is the manager of a large venue. My old friend asked me point blank, “Who is your true friend here?”  Here meaning the Grand Central, the place I work. With no immediate response, he asked me – “When you were in the Philippines, who were your friends there?” This started to trouble me, because I realized that I do have friends everywhere… But I do not have really TRUE friends. I don't have any friends who I would consider as a confidant, a go-to person, someone you can lean on. Is that depressingly true? Can I not think of someone?

Even now, I don’t think I really have true friends. I have so many people I can go out with, people I can drink with, people I can watch a movie with. I guess I just need one good friend, and that is all I ever needed.

At the end of the conversation, I realized my only friend that my one true is my best friend, my girl.

I don't like friends 'cuz they were never there when I needed them.  

And If they were!  there I would never be there for them when they need me! That's so selfish XD!  But this is really the way it's going with me.

I have friends, i am not sure if I can say I have many but I have so far.

I got the idea that you have many friends which means you have many chances to be inspired by many different people.  I think it is not always easy to have many friends around and have contacts like you, so I think you're in nice situation.

In my opinion, you can't have many best friends, which is supposed to be.  Some one who you can truly depnd on is very special.

You never know where you meet them, and possibly you can't have such people in your life. Just see someone when you are not trying to talk to keep conversation but feel comfortable enough in opening your heart and you are eager to help them when they are in truble.

Hi...i am new here and i interesting to ur opinion about best friend....i think best  friend is best partner when we need he always ready 4 us in sad and happines situation, good friend for share and good listener, have respect  and he not only girl or boy friend in commitment but he can be ur sister,brother or all people around u with pure heart to make a friend with u.

My english not good and i wish to make it better,  so pardon me if there any mistake on my word, i just try to be good friend. ciowwwwwww

I don't have too many friends but I am still happy because the only friends I have are the ones I can really count on or trust, I hide nothing from them and they do the same to me. It is lucky for me to realize that some people are just not good for me so I don't need to stay with them anymore and it keeps out of trouble. So I don't think it is necessarily depressing just because you don't have too many true friends. Maybe we don't need to many friends through our lifetime, but just a few is enough. I'd rather have one true and sincere friend who will always be there whenever you need them than having a lot of friends but none of whom will give a damn about you but your money,and who won't even bother asking how you are. They will definately leave you once you go down and till then will you realize how they have treated you and what they're really like. So which would you pick? So only if the friends we have are truely worth trusting, then we don't need to complain or feel bad. Because we have nothing to lose. I guess this is what a true friend should be: they care for you even when your going through the worst days in your life and they won't leave you and they will give whatever it takes to help you and won't ask rewards. Friends are like that. And if you really have some of that kind of friends, you will be so lucky!

I used to have many friends way back in high school. When I started working I lost my contact with them and our closeness as well. Proximity and frequent bonding matters in maintaining close friends.
