This month’s sample of the monthly magazine “GEO” says that Australia’s rainforest is home to the deadliest taipan in the world. Many people entering this forest for example for poaching, for the wood or to grow plantations there already got killed encountering the Australian taipan.

The German newspaper “Berliner Kurier” said on Friday that within the next few years 2 million stray cats shall get killed, because they do too much damage to Australia’s native birds. In addition to that cat owners are told not to let their cats out without hanging a small bell around their neck and to neuter their pets.
Probably some of these cats can be saved if we just adopt cats from Australian cat rescues like “http://www.catrescue.com.au/adoption-information/urgent-homes-needed”.

The latest episode of “TopZehn” which was about the human penis says that the Australian rainforest is home to the so-called “Unambal”, which is a native tribe that is known for some very painful ceremony young boys have to go through. They believe that this ritual will help them to grow into beautiful adult men someday.

A photo that deals with a beautiful piece of nature may not be the best place to post this, but since at least both have to do with Australia…”Amnesty International” says that Australia has a prison that houses 1.300 refugees who actually never did do anything, but got arrested anyway just for being refugees. There they even get mistreated and receive very poor amounts of food, water and medical treatment which is part of a plan to put so much pressures on them that they will voluntarily return to where they came from. The night between February 16th and Februay 17th the situation escalated completely. When some of these imprisoned refugees demonstrated against their unfair treatment, guards tried to keep this protest down by slapping convicts, by beating them with sticks and by kicking them. This however only worsened the situation and one refugee – a young gentleman in his early 20’s even died in this fight. Some eyewitnesses say that he succumbed to wounds caused by sticks and knives the guards used to silence them.
That the surviving refugees received a proper medical treatment is oubtful, though. Thus “Amnesty International” asks you to sign their petition-letter on “http://www.amnesty.de/urgent-action/ua-043-2014/asylsuchende-auf-manus-weiterhin-gefahr?destination=startseite”, because it might make the Australian government change something about this situation. “E-MAIL SENDEN” means “Send E-Mail” by the way. Now the hoice is up to you who reads this, dear Sir or Madam.

Funny fact about the German election campaign that ended today: The election poster of one party depicted a sweet little wombat and said “One wombat for each household [then this photo was shown] An unrealistic election promise?! We can do that, too.”
-------
I know I used to have an extra rubrique for the critically endangered hairy – nosed wombat and I also know that they don’t live in rainforests. Since I had to spare some space again and since they at least are to be found in the same country – Queensland – I just decided to remove the photo of this animal and to remove the information under this photo:
“http://www.wombatfoundation.com.au/” and “http://www.wildlife.org.au/wildlife/speciesprofile/mammals/northern_hairy_nosed_wombat.html” belong to two organisations that give you the chance of getting involved in the protection of the 110 more or less remaining individuals.
—-——-——-—
I just didn’t want my first post under this photo to fall into oblivion, so: This photo shows a part of the rainforest in Queensland.
If you want to know more about the rainforest there and maybe even want to help, you should visit this website:”http://www.arf.net.au/”.
