The German newspaper ‘GEA’ says that there are at least 133 groups of people that are in a conflict with each other. Most of these conflicts are caused by lust for gems and precious metals as Congo has plenty of both. Alas apart from these conflicts there is yet another issue. Of course these people don’t want anybody else around when they dig up these treasures, so they of course force inhabitants of surrounding villages to move, making them refugees. The police is one of these 133 groups and they aren’t really helpful either. First of a conflict between more than 130 groups of course is too much for them to handle. Then low payment, awful training and understaffed police stations aren’t really motivational either. Thus as for now I guess most police officers are rather passive in this fight as they feel so helpless or they take bribe money by one of the other 132 groups involved in this conflict.

The German newspaper ‘Suedwestpresse’ says that two voluntary workers from Reutlingen (Baden-Wuerttemberg/ Germany) now took several kg of toothbrushes, toothpaste and a hand puppet with big teeth to Kinshasa (Congo). There they are going to teach young children all about healthy diet and mouth hygiene. As Congo is so poor that for most people even buying tooth paste is a big deal, they will then spread the goods they bring along and it won’t cost these children a penny.

The German monthly newspaper ‘GEO’ says that scientists from Durham (England) just found out that dogs actually are capable of sniffing a malaria infection even before first symptoms show.
At about the same time a team of scientists from the Netherlands invented a new method to catch the flies causing this disease that still is a huge problem in the Republic of Congo. Basically this thing is just a giant fly-catcher with some glue on. If you swing it around, the glue will make the fly stick to the glue making it harder for the fly to escape than an ordinary fly-catcher would.
