Tango fans! - Good places where to dance tango nuevo?

Damiann

Hello! Does anybody know where to dance tango to the music like Bajofondo, Tanghetto, Gotan Project etc.? I really like dancing to this music but there's no club with this "new" music in the Czech Republic. I'd like to know whether there's place like that somewhere around the world. Let me know or write anything about tango:-)

The Tango Argentino is quite an old dance, and it started about 100 years ago  in the "naughty" parlours of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Ballroom Tango is actually a different type of dance:

I'm sorry – I should have specified that I mean argentine tango. I know it's a widespread dance in Spain, Mexico and Argentina, but I am wondering if there are some "tango nuevo" clubs. Not only milongas with the old music.

Tango is from Uruguay and Argentina. By the way, tomorrow I'm going to a tango concert. :)

I didn't think I would be stirring up a hornets' nest when I said that the Tango originated from Argentina. Embarassed

There's another dance from South America, the Samba. The original is from Bahia, Brazil, and has African origins – like Jazz music.

Like the Tango, there's also a "Ballroom" Samba:

hmm… Will Uruguay claim ownership of the Samba also?

You "Sri Lankan" man, better shut up when you don't know what you are talking about.

Tango was born and developed in both Montevideo and Buenos Aires, it is RIOPLATENSE not Argentinan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tango_(dance)

"Cultural origins1850–1890 Argentina andUruguay

Tango dance and tango music originated in the area of the Rio de la Plata, and spread to the rest of the world soon after"

Even more, the most popular tango of the world (la Cumparsita) is Uruguayan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumparsita

Salsa has nothing related to our culture. The video you said is "salsa" is actually candombe, typically Uruguayan and has nothing related to salsa.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candombe

"Candombe is a musical genre that has its roots in the African Bantu, and is proper of Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Uruguayan Candombe is the most practiced and spread internationally and has been recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. "

Better keep on talking about "Sri Lankan" topics, cause you know nothing about our culture.

I must say, Damiann, that I know very little about the dance spots near you where one could dance the "tango nuevo", though I have read that it's danced in places like Poland and Belgrade. I can understand your passion for the dance, and you could set up your own dance club/school in Budapest.

SantiagoC:

I'm sorry that what I have said has upset you so much. After all, this doesn't seem to be about religion or politics. But then, we all get annoyed about other things as well.

I or anyone around here did not coin the term, "Tango Argentino"; people say it around the world, albeit inaccurately. Maybe I should know better next time as there is a saying, "It takes two to Tango", and I'll remember that it's from both banks of the Rio de la Plata!

About the other dance, I was talking about the Samba, and not the Salsa (originally from Cuba). OK, maybe the joke about the Samba and the Candombe went a little too far. Some, though, see a link.

Sometimes one hears of similar tiffs between Sri Lankans and Indians. See the comments below this video:
