Suddenly the classroom was void of people and I could only hear my beats and breathe. I stretched my hands and arms with nervous; my fingers were crumbling on the keyboards, waiting for the shoot. I used to practice the song for more than one thousand times. But my head was stuck in a minute and my memory was black out. Who pull out the light? This happened in my class in XX School, when I was the only student came from another university. I am an Art and Design major but I believe one should not limit her interests to one particular field. Therefore I enrolled in this class my desire to delve into various disciplines. Classes such as these likewise provide respite from the usual drawing and design courses that I was handling. This is not to say that I have lost my love for drawing. I have always maintained an enthusiasm for various subject matters. I was particularly drawn to communication, especially in rhetoric. I can’t remember how many times when I passed the closed door of mysterious rhetoric classroom, a strong impulse nearly pushed me walking into the room. I finally summoned up enough courage and slipped into a class one day. The professor was lecturing on the “Public Speeches in 1990s China “which I found thoroughly stimulating. I also attended the school debate group and I found my passion in debate. The experience drew me head over toe into the world of rhetoric. Despite my avid fascination for the world of communications, the fear of public speaking prevented me from going further with my interests. To solve this problem, I enrolled at the XX Music School to study a course called “The Art of Anchor”. I enrolled not for credit, but because I desired to learn to ease my nerves in public. When everyone in the class was encouraged to perform their favorite song, I didn’t mean to teach fish to swim by playing piano in front of my brilliant classmates major in music. “There’s nobody watching you but you and your piece of music. You can make it.” Somehow the Pygmalion Effect actually worked. With a deep breathe, notes flow out from the piano. I was not frozen any more. The melody of Beethoven seemed to clear my mind so I seized the moment and kept on playing my music. Having addressed my issues on public presentation, I am now faced with the dilemma of where to acquire ability of solving real-world problems. If I am to become an exceptional communication practitione, it is imperative that I solidify my skills in handling problems within an actual work setting. This requires internship experience in the market in order to develop my critical thinking skills, harness my creativity and persuasive powers to convince others to accept my ideas. If I choose to be a dedicated media study scholar, I need to set out researches before I get to graduate school. At present, these opportunities which I deem vital to my development are not currently offered at our university. The answer comes up as “Allegheny”. The quality of bringing up whole person embodies my ideal college. The ACCEL program and the unusual combinations open numerous opportunities in life and I no longer consider my life is fixed with my major. I am fascinated by the Freshman/Sophomore seminar, especially in Communication in a Discipline: Media and Society. I had previously worked at the News Station of the East Campus in XXX University, I realized how powerful impact the media brought forth on the audience. With a lot of interaction between professor and students, and abundant opportunities in both research and internships, I believe Allegheny will prepare me to gather further success in either graduate school or work place. I choose to study communication arts in Allegheny because the program provides a solid liberal arts background for many careers .The fact that I can integrate creativity, imagination and strategy to offer excellent solutions to real-world problems is extremely appealing to me. If granted admission, I intend to devote myself to studying the principles that govern the fields of communication arts. After I have accumulated sufficient theoretical knowledge, I shall maximize your practical training activities so that I may become adept at applying theory into real-world practice.
