Good question! A swim meet is a swimming competition. So the phrase means “in the swimming compeition.”

Thanks, Amy! Is it only used to swimming competitions, or to other competitions as well? For example, “run meet”, “wrestling meet” etc?

Hi! The only other example I can think of is gymnastics: “I have a gymnastics meet this weekend.” For most other sports we use “match” or “game,” as in, “I have a basketball game this night,” or, “Jacob did well at his wrestling match.”
