Be Able To

To be able to do something means to have the ability to do it. Be able to is sometimes used in place of can or could. Instead of, "I can't go," you might say, "I am not able to go."

You can use be able to in any tense. Just change the tense of the verb be. For example, you can say, "I was able to see a movie last night," or, "He will be able to visit me tomorrow."

But, note that;

The past form of BE ABLE TO has a different meaning. It expresses not talent but managing to do something.

I was able to find my wallet. OR I was able to catch the bus.

These are not talent but efforts.
To express talent, you are supposed to use COULD!

ALSO; note that; in the negative of these two forms, there is no difference :P

I could not catch the bus= I was not able to catch bus.
