Definition

1. Definition - Study the definition.

take lightly, don’t take seriously, don’t allow it to affect you in a bad way, ignore, don’t think about the negative parts, use humor to make yourself feel better, keep a positive attitude even if bad things happen

2. Use - Learn how the slang is used.

If something bad happens to you, one way to deal with it is to “laugh off” the problems. When you laugh something off, you don’t allow it to become something serious. You stay happy, even though bad things are happening.
You can use “laugh off” to describe a response to just about any bad situation. For example, if you hurt your leg playing sports, you could tell your friends you’re OK by saying, “It’s not a big deal. I’ll just laugh it off.”

Examples

1. Examples - Hear some example sentences.

””When my dad yells at me I just laugh it off. I know he’s not seriously mad at me. He just likes to yell.”“

””I wasn’t sure what to do when Kathy said that she didn’t like me. At first I felt really bad, but then I decided to laugh off what she said and go on with my life.”“

””Our math teacher can be really mean sometimes, but most of the students laugh off everything he says because they know he’s really a nice guy.”“
