Labor Day means the end of Summer here in the U.S. The week after this holiday, kids go back to school and people start thinking about Fall. It’s usually the last chance for a summer activity.
This Labor Day, Nedra decided to brave the traffic and head out of town. In the following conversation, Nedra tells Joe all about her trip. Check it out.

Joe: Nedra, what did you do for Labor Day weekend?
Nedra: Um, well, Sunday we went for a really long hike along the Pacific Crest, uh, Trail.
Joe: The Pacific Crest Trail. I don’t think I know where that is or what that is.
Nedra: Well, I think it goes, it starts in, um, Washington and goes all the way down to California but, we just, uh, went along the part that’s right near the gorge.
Joe: Oh, so it was more, it was like a nature trail type of thing?
Nedra: Yeah, yeah. And it was really nice. It was perfect weather, ‘bout 70, 75 degrees and there’s seven of us all together including, and then three dogs, too.
Joe: Oh wow! So you guys took, uh, took out your pet animals – your, your dogs and everything, huh?
Nedra: Yeah, they weren’t my dogs but they sure were fun. I got to walk them.
Joe: Oh, really? What kind of dogs were there?
Nedra: Uh, let’s see. An Australian Shepard, a Lab cross and then the other one was just a big fluffy dog. I can’t remember the name of that dog.
Joe: A big fluffy dog! That’s pretty cool. Well so the weather was nice, the dogs were nice and people were nice. Was there anything that was kind of mediocre about the whole thing?
Nedra: Um no! What was really cool was, um, we hiked in ‘bout 2.2 miles in and we got to see a really nice waterfall. It gave us a chance to kind of have a nice lunch and relax and have some cool air to kind of cool us off.
Joe: Oh that’s sweet.

On Labor Day, Americans like to do outdoor activities like go to football games, have barbecues, go camping, or in Nedra’s case, go hiking. The holiday always happens on the first Monday of September so everyone gets a three-day weekend.
It’s sad to see summer go, but fall is on it’s way. In Oregon, fall is beautiful with all the leaves falling from the trees and wonderful sunny weather. Stay with us as we take you through this season.
Do you like to hike? Tell us about about it on the “Life Goes On” message board. Now, on to the quiz!
