Hello Friends!
I hope you are all enjoying Spring! One thing I always notice when Spring-time arrives is how busy everyone seems to become. Almost all of my friends get involved in new activites or projects once they know that Summer is almost here… it must be something in the air!
This week you can hear about one of the new activities Nedra is involved with. She is taking a self defense course that sounds like it is not only fun, but is also giving her some very useful skills!
Tune in below then join me again for the discussion!

Nedra

Brett:   So Tanis tells me you’ve started a new self defense class.

Nedra:   Yeah, I had my first class last night and it was really fun. There was probably thirty-five to forty women in it.

Brett:   So is it like a, a Kung Fu class or a martial arts class or, or, what is it like?

Nedra:   Um, it’s more about learning to be assertive and stand up for yourself and how to protect yourself in different situations.

Brett:   Oh, so it’s more like… If you’re getting mugged, or someone’s trying to steal your bag, what do you do in that situation to, to take care of yourself.

Nedra:   Yeah, that kind of thing. Um, and also learning how to um, stop things before they even happen. How to protect yourself when you have your, like your intuition comes up and you have this gut feeling that something bad is going to happen. How to listen to that.

Brett:   Wow, that sounds like a good class. Is it a, you know, is it a long term class or I mean, is this, you know, over the course of months?

Nedra:   It’s, uh, three weeks and they’re three hours each, and it’s actually a free class that’s uh, sponsored by the police department here in the city. So, um, I’m really excited that they offer such a thing and that women can take it. I saw some teenage girls in there taking it. It made me excited to see that they’re, they’re learning these skills now.

Brett:   Yeah, that sounds great. I mean, especially for, like you said, teenage girls or women, but you know, really anyone, I think can benefit from a class like that. Just how to take care of yourself in, in a situation.

Discussion

After listening to Nedra tell Brett about her Self Defense Class, I think I want to take it too! Although we live in a safe city, it is always good to know about positive ways to protect yourself. What do you think? Would you like to take a class like this? Have you ever taken a self defense course before? Why do you think it would be a good idea to take a course like this? Come to the Life Goes On message boards and tell us what you think!
Have a wonderful week friends, and BE SAFE!
Best,
Tanis
