Spanish is now more important than English.

April 1, 2010

The United Nations announced today that Spanish has been declared the most important language to learn in today's world. The astonishing announcement came just as the world was settling in to learn English. Spokesman Juan Meedball said in a press release that Spanish will become the language of universal trade and commerce and that the world had better get in step with this before countries like Spain and Mexico ruled the world.

The ruling by the United Nations came as a shock to the United States. President Obama was speechless while many new Americans cheered the proclamation. Beniquez Mendosa Miguel Candida, a Mexican gardener for ex-President George Bush, was quoted as saying, "This is a big thing, no?"

Canada has already added Spanish to its list of national languages, right up beside French and the old universal language of English.

I'm afraid that sites such a Englishbaby will become useless unless they change their name to Spanishbaby or espanolbebe, which is my rough translation.

Oh, in case I forgot to mention it, April Fools! It's April 1st people so maybe I had you tricked for a little while anyway. Thanks for reading.

Over 70 countries have English as an official or semi-official language. For ecery one person learning Spanish in the world, ten are learning English. Asia has 4 billion people. Very few study Spanish in Asia. Africa has 1.4 billion people. Nobopdy is learning Spanish in Africa. At least 1.5 billion people in the world can speak English. On the other hand, less than half that amount can speak some Spanish -- and they live in poor countries for the most part.

Mapleleaf Man Canada	I think the word would be follower, same as Twitter. Now that I have a new follower, I will have to start writing again. I've been lazy. There is a space on QQ, the Chinese chat thing that I blog on much more frequently than on here but I'll come back here just for you Danny! Glad you like my work. :)

Maybe you don't have that special day in your country but it's lots of fun here and in many other places. Spanish is a beautiful and classic language, full of magic and life but it isn't the dominant language in the world. English is still the language to learn if you want to get ahead in your life and in your career. I hope you enjoyed the joke!

Spanish is a beautiful and classic language, full of magic and life but it isn't the dominant language in the world. English is still the language to learn if you want to get ahead in your life and in your career. I hope you enjoyed the joke!

kabochasalad Japan	I learned spanish at school once, but I don't remember any of it. The way they pronounce in spsnish sounds similer to Japanese if compared with english. Still the idea of spnish going to be important might not make a lot of japanese people start to learn. Learning english industry is such huge here.
