An idea suddenly occurred to me …......we can share the slangs or useful expressions you learned from movies or songs and you think very useful and practical in daily life  together…...................

There are many slangs in english and some of them can't be found in your textbook…. i think only the native speakers understand the deep meaning of it….

but they are very useful and enrich  your language ., the problem is we seldom have the oppotunity to use them in our daily life so despite that we may have read the slang b4 but forget it very soon…......

eg :"she is always running the show' means she is the boss she decides …......

FREE TO CHOOSE

I'd been learning English when my mom told me to learn Mandarin, I was cut in the midlle, I had to choose between the two. What should I do ??

Lucky me, like my dad, she also celebrates freedom, I'm free to choose what is the best for me. I continued my English study and gave up Mandarin, not because I didn't like the language.To be honest I love it, Mandarin is really a beautiful language.

Let me share my little secret how I convinced my mom. First of all, I told her that I had not enough time to study both. I was more interested in learning English than learning Mandarin, lots of interesting books are in English.Then it's easier to learn English than to study Mandarin, all essential teaching tools were available, tv, radio, books, magazines, newpapers, tabloids, native speaker's courses and so on.And mastery the English language is the way to a promising and lucrative career.She supported my choice. 

Edorado i think you should have follow your mother 's advice. You chinese is the language owning the largest native speakers in the world and there are more and more foreigners studying chinese.I think in the future, grasping chinese will make your life easier and it will be helpful for you to make more friends around world.

Suppose now  you can speak Indonesian , English and chinese. What a great thing! You can manage everything in the world with this three languages.

As saying goes:"never too late to learn" I suggest that you don't give up chinese.

Chinese government is setting mor and more Confucius Institutes (a kind of school specialize in introoducing chinese culture and chinese characters to foreigners)abroad . Is there any such kind of school in your country?

Thank you for your advice.Yes, you're right I should've not given up learning Chinese. If I could speak a little bit Chinese, life would be much easier.Right now, not in the future.It would possibly open new opportunities, make new friends and learn sth about the old and rich chinese civilization.In addition, China is becoming an economic superpower, producing and selling everything, from racquet tennis to passenger cars all over the world, along the way destroying old jobs and creating new ones.

But as everyone knows, learning a new language requires a gret deal of effort and time as well as persistency in order to speak it fluently.Take English for example.It is a long process, even a life time process, let alone the chinese language which is much more difficult because of lacking materials, qualified teachers and opportunity to practice it.

When my mom brought a Chinese – English dictionary and told me to learn the language I had really no time, i mean I couldn't give up my tennis, hanging up with friends, movies, travels, study and girl friend.So I said no to her. To show how serious she was, it was a new red comphrensive Chinese-English dictionary she bought when she was in Singapore. 

Of course, I have no regret, there is still opportunity to learn it as long as there is a will ? By the way, It's the first time I heard The confucious Institute. I hope to start learning it in September this year. When a chance comes, to meet you in person, we converse not only in English, but also a little bit in Chinese. Who knows ??

As far as i know there are confucious Institute in asian countries such as Korea, Tailand, Singapore,Nepal, Malasia…....All in all there are 54 confucious Institutes all over the five continents. And there will be more and more.

Clods, slobs and boors

I don't know your case but there are some clods,slobs and boors in my workunit. Every time when i chat with my friend o Msn, some of them look over my shoulder and read my message. I wonder don't they know there is a word named etiqutte?  Last time i prepared my lesson in the office and stepped out to wash my hand. When i came back i saw one of my colleagues was reading what i had written in my textbook.He is really a pain in the ass.

Yeah,"etiquette" became a symbol right?.In the past,some of people fought against it.You know they destroyed it.

THE SUMMER PALACE, another famous landmark in Beijing, is really worth of seeing !!

My cousin was in her Limo, when she called me on her cell phone just a minute ago.She is heading to the Summer Palace, the place where in ancient times, the emperor amused himself by playing his toys with his favourite concubine while enjoying the performing of an attractive female troupe, singing some chinese classical music and a cup of famous chinese tea in a serene and beautiful scenery.You can see there the sparkling water lake, splendour flowers, hundreds of old trees, colorful and rich decorative buildings, spacious grass greeny fields, and a bit of ancient chinese culture.The palace was exclusively used by the emperor during the summer for his enjoyment and his subjects had no idea what was going on inside. Since it's opened to public, like other landmarks and tourist attractions, the place in now always crowded with tourists from all over the world.

For the past few years China, particularly Beijing has become a magnet that attracts a huge number of tourists, business tycoons, real estate speculators, stock market players, entertainment moguls and great names in computer industry that pumping up billions of dollars into the economy.Inevitable they've changed the country's landscape permanently.You can see the problems of air and water pollution, traffic congestions, weatlh gap and everything is becoming dear.  

Back to my cousin, now where ever she goes, a hired personal guide who is ex chinese teacher accompanying her.She doesn't speak Chinese so she needs someone who can speak English to help her during her stay there.She also hired a personal driver who is master in Kungfu to protect her from the thug if they try to take some advantages from her.I remind her to bring an ambrella when she goes out because if it suddenly rained, you'd become a drowned rat !, a really dreadful thing to think of. 

From the summer palace she wants to visit a hutong where she hopes to enjoy some traditional chinese culture and see how the people cope with the change around them, particularly the dramatic changes in their neighborhood.Many Hutongs and traditional chinese courtyards have been dissapeared, old buildings demolished and replaced by new structures and public parks.Now you can see almost everyday there is a new appartment, some shopping malls or a new parking lot full of fancy cars.Three decades ago everyone rides a bicycle, nowdays they drive.

What about you? Have the changes affect your life in a significant way ? 

There was a six-storeyed building in front of the apartment i live in which prevented sunshine shedding into my house for over 10 years. I hate the bug building. But i get used to the people who lived there. some of them threw rubbish out from windows and beat their blankets while dust flying down to the heads of others. some of them made noises without considering the feeling of the others. such as:"* , you forgot your keys.""Time for dinner,* , come back."... paradox is i disliked all these but i got used to them.

Nowadays the place where used to stand the building has been made into a beautiful lawn and i can enjoy shunshine everyday without stepping out of it.

It was raining the whole afternoon which made me feel blue. Emerson ever said :"A day is a miniature of eternity."  But i don't hope what he said was true.
