Miguel: So Stephanie, did you do anything, uh, exciting this weekend?
Stephanie: I went to see a concert.
Miguel: What’d you see?
Stephanie: I saw The Decemberists.
Miguel: The Decemberists. I never heard of ‘em. Are they a local band?
Stephanie: They are a local band. Um, there are five people in the band and I think three of them are from Portland.
Miguel: What kinda music is it…is it rock or how would you describe it?
Stephanie: There’s a little bit of rock, and a little bit of pop, with a few circussy-type things going on in the middle of it.
Miguel: ha…Circussy in what way? Do they like do gymnastics or what?
Stephanie: Well all the different musicians have different kinds of instruments. The drummer has a gong for example and the bass player has not only a bass, but a bass drum.
Miguel: Wow…that sounds like fun.

Discussion
The Decemberists are a band from Portland, a “local band” if you live in the area. Does your town have any local bands? Are you more apt to see a local band or a more popular national act? Have any local bands from your city gotten popular?
Ciao!
Stephanie
