The Exploding Hearts

Thanks to a great idea from John, this week’s theme is going to be explosive! We are focusing on Mount Saint Helens and other volcanic activity. To start with, the music lesson is about a local Portland band, The Exploding Hearts, who met a tragic end. Listen as Steph and Sara talk about it.

Steph: Did you hear about that band, The Exploding Hearts, from Portland?60Sara: I don’t think so.

Steph: They, they were a local band. And they died. They were on tour and the whole, like 3 of the 4 members of the band actually died because their band van totally crashed.

Sara: Oh my gosh. Was it an accident that the driver caused or was it another car?

Steph: Well, I think it was undetermined. But, um, the result was that 3/4 of the band died. So it was really sad. And it really affected a lot of musicians in Portland.

Sara: Oh, that’s terrible. When did this happen?

Steph: Oh, it was like last year.

Sara: Oh my gosh.

Steph: Yeah. I know. I didn’t really know the band very well. Um, but my dad called me. I was living in Germany. And my dad called me and he was very worried because one of the guys in the band was named Adam. And I have a friend named Adam, who’s in a band.

Sara: Oh, wow.

Steph: And he was very worried. But, it turned out not to be him, so.

Sara: Well, that’s good.

Steph: Yeah. But, their friends keep their website up. And they really, um, ya know, dedicate a lot of different things to them on their website, so.

Sara: That’s great. I’ll have to check it out.

Steph: I know. I think it’s the explodinghearts.com.

Sara: I’ll look at it.

Steph: Google it.

Sara: I’ll google it.

Steph: Yeah.

Discussion

That is just so sad. These guys were really good and had lots of potential. They had just signed to a label and were really going places. I guess that you can never really tell when it’s going to happen. It must have been their fate. It’s still sad though.
