Steph: Ya know, it’s really common now for bands to do benefit concerts.
Derek: Yeah. It’s a good thing to be doing.
Steph: Yeah. There are so many people in need. I mean, depending on the cause.
Derek: Yeah. Um, have you heard of any for the tsunami?
Steph: Yeah. I heard about one, actually, um, with Eric Clapton. It’s gonna be next week. And I’m sure it will be broadcast on all the major TV networks.
Derek: Of course. And that would be a good money raiser for that.
Steph: Totally. Yeah. He’s volunteering his time and all the other bands are volunteering their time. And all of the proceeds are going to raise funds for the people in need in South Asia.
Derek: That’s really great.
Steph: I know. It’s fabulous. Maybe we should have one.
Derek: I think we should.
Steph: You think anyone would donate?
Derek: Possibly. It’s a good cause.

Discussion
Benefit concerts have been around for a while. Famous musicians, like Eric Clapton, play at them. So do less well-known musicians.
Here in Portland, there have been benefit concerts to help poor children, encourage voting and now, to help the victims of the tsunami.
It’s really great when people come together to help others. Don’t you think?
