out there

Date: Jan 04 2001

1. Quote - Listen to the quote and guess what the slang means.

”...I was really interested in talking to Prince. But, yeah, he’s very eccentric, very out there...”

1. Definition - Study the definition.

weird, strange, crazy. unrealistic or difficult to believe

2. Use - Learn how the slang is used.

You can use “out there” to describe people that you don’t understand. If someone is very different than the other people you know, that person is really “out there.” It’s not an insulting term, but a person who thinks he’s normal could take offense to it, so be careful.

1. Examples - Hear some example sentences.

“Marilyn Manson is out there. He’s one of the strangest performers around.”

1. Winners - See who guessed the slang definition correctly.

I guess it means that Prince always talk about some very strange topics which few of people like to talk.
by Grace (Tianjin, China)
For “out there,” I think it’s the synonym of eccentric, means not so normal or common, very strange.
by Lynn (Siping, Jalin, China)
I think “out there” means somewhere that is not seen easily or is reached, imagined in mind.
by Jessica Lee (Seoul, Korea)
