Quote

1. Quote - Listen to the quote and guess what the slang means.

“It’s actually a mishmash of two names.”
- Ben Grimes, of the band Golden Republic, talking about the band’s name.

Definition

1. Definition - Study the definition.

a mishmash is a combination of two or more different things

2. Use - Learn how the slang is used.

This term can be very useful when you want to describe something and are having a hard time doing it. It can be especially helpful with music or art. You can say that a band is a mishmash of ABBA and Usher. Wouldn’t that be fun?
Another way to use this term is like the way it is used in this quote. The band’s name is literally a mishmash, or combination, of the other names that they liked.
We see this in marriages sometimes as an option to the traditional taking the name of your spouse. For example if Mary Smith marries John Gray, they could change their names to Mary and John Graysmith. What a great mishmash of names!

Examples

1. Examples - Hear some example sentences.

“I like your fashion sense. It’s kind of a mishmash of urban Los Angeles and Hawai’ian style. What a great mix!”

“Their house is really cool. It’s a mishmash of a bunch of eclectic furniture from around the world.”
“The mishmash of people at his parties make them a lot of fun to go to. I always meet such a wide variety of people there.”
