Mistakes are often made by using a wrong preposition after certain words. The following list includes the words which most often give trouble:
1. Absorbed, not at
Do not say: The man was absorbed at his work.
say: The man was absorbed in his work.
2. Accuse of, not for
Do not say: He accused the man for stealing.
say: He accused the man of stealing.
3. accustomed to, not with
Do not say: I am accustomed with hot weather.
say: I am accustomed to hot weather.
4. aim at, not on or against
Do not say: He aimed on( against) the bird.
say: He aimed at the bird.
5. Angry with, not against
Do not say: The teacher was angry against him.
say: The teacher was angry with him.
6. Anxious about, not for
Do not say: They are anxious for his study.
say: They are anxious about his study.
7. Ashamed of, not from
Do not say: He is now ashamed from his conduct.
say: He is now ashamed from his conduct.
