Sara

Steph:  Hey, are you coming to my Christmas party next week?

Sara:  I’m really gonna try. But like I told you, it’s like the craziest season for parties. Because first I have to be an elf for this volunteer event, which is really bizarre. And then I have another party to go to. So, I’m planning on coming by after that.

Steph:  I hope you can come by. Who else is having a party?

Sara:  My friend Rhonda. She lives, she lives close by here, down like in the Pearl District.

Steph:  Oh really? That’s cool.

Sara:  But tell me about your party. What are you guys gonna do?

Steph:  Well, we’re gonna get together. I’m gonna try to make some German specialties, ya know, some different sausages and warm wine and potato salad. Ya know, cause I really like that stuff.

Sara:  Like warner schnitzel, or whatever that stuff’s called.

Steph:  Yeah. Wiener schnitzel.

Sara:  Wiener schnitzel.

Steph:  Yeah. It’s really good.

Sara:  That sounds like fun!

Steph:  So, it’ll be fun. We’ll just get all the family, or not family, but, ya know, friends, together. No family is invited, really.

Sara:  That sounds great. Well, I’m definitely planning on being there. It just might be a little bit later.

Steph:  OK. Well, I hope you can come.

Sara:  Yeah. Me, too.

Discussion

Do you think that Sara is going to go to this party? She never really gives a ‘yes’ or a ‘no.’ Rather, she gives a ‘maybe.’ Nobody wants to feel like they have to go to a party, so we usually just say ‘maybe.’
This is an informal party. Usually, parties for friends are pretty informal. We don’t have to know exactly how many people will be there. We just kind of wing it.
Do you like to have holiday parties? Are they more formal or informal?
