Mason: Marni, have you heard about World War Z? Are you excited about it?
Marni: I am excited about it. I have heard of it. I actually read the book.
Mason: Oh yeah?
Marni: Yes, I did. And my understanding is the film is completely different from the book.
Mason: OK. The book has zombies, right?
Marni: Yes. But essentially the book is an oral retelling of the zombie war, so it’s people reflecting on their experiences with the zombie apocalypse. Now, the film has Brad Pitt, so, right there.
Mason: I saw the trailer and there was this one really cool cut scene of basically what I assume are zombies make this giant human pyramid to try to climb over this big wall. And what I gathered from that is that this is a movie with fast zombies.
Marni: Yes. And fast zombies equals scarier zombies.
Mason: Scarier zombies by far. Because the fundamental choice you make with zombie movies is do you have slow, dragging-their-legs zombies, moaning and groaning, or do you have scary, fast zombies. They’re probably even faster because they’re dead and they don’t feel pain and they don’t get winded.
Marni: The trend is definitely the faster zombie, and I think that this is where that film chose to go.

Marni is excited about the new movie World War Z. She’s even read the book the movie was based on. The movie is different from the book, but she’s excited that Brad Pitt is in the movie.
Mason was excited by the trailer of the movie. One thing he noticed in it was that the zombies in the movie moved quickly, as opposed to older horror films where the zombies move very slowly. Both Marni and Mason agree that fast zombies are scarier. The trend in movies today seems to be to use these faster, scarier zombies instead of the slow ones.
Have you seen, or do you plan to see World War Z? Do you like scary movies in general? What are your favorite scary movies?
