There are many ways to tell someone in English that you’re going to talk with them in the future. The list is quite long, in fact! You can say that you’ll call, text, email, or send them a note. You might tell them they’ll hear from you, that you’ll talk soon, or that you will contact them when you can. You may even give them a buzz or drop them a line. You can be in touch, keep in touch, or get in touch.
Although to get in touch with someone means to be in communication with him or her, it’s also possible to get in touch with oneself. Of course, this doesn’t mean sending an email to yourself, or calling your own telephone! To get in touch with oneself means to learn about one’s feelings or interests. A friend might go camping by herself one weekend to get in touch with her love of the outdoors. Another could choose to get in touch with his interest in animals by working at a zoo. If you want to get in touch with something, you want to learn or think more about something that’s important to you.
Actor Gael Garcia Bernal is interested in politics. As a famous actor, he has been given opportunities to become active in politics, and he feels lucky to be in this position. He is able to get in touch with what he can do to make changes in the world.
Is there something you want to know more about inside yourself? What do you want to get in touch with?
