The best part about buying something new is that you don’t have to worry about spending too much time taking care of it. If it’s a brand new car or computer, you know that you won’t need to do any maintenance on it for a while. But what if you don’t have enough money to buy a new car, and all you can afford is something that might need a lot of attention just to keep it going?

Cars aren’t the only things that might need a lot of maintenance. People can spend a lot of time, energy, and money to take care of their pets, relationships, and even how they look. If you’ve made a big investment in something, it might pay off to maintain it well.

Jessica just got a new haircut and realizes that this new style will be more high maintenance than before. Find out more in today’s English lesson about keeping up a new routine.

Jessica:  Gary.

Gary:  Yes.

Jessica:  I just got a new haircut.

Gary:  You did. It looks really nice!

Jessica:  Well, thank you. It’s actually turning out to be really high maintenance.

Gary:  No, really?

Jessica:  Yeah. It was an investment to get the haircut. I don’t get my hair cut very often.

Gary:  But, so it was worth it?

Jessica:  It was worth it. I thought it looked good, especially at first. But I can’t get into the routine of making it look so perfect. My hair’s been a little more fussy since I got this haircut.

Gary:  How is your hair reacting to it?

Jessica:  Well, it’s shorter in different places. So my it’s a little new to me.

Gary:  OK.

Jessica:  I’m sure if I make the investment on the right products, maybe then it’ll look better.

Gary:  It also sounds like you have to develop a new routine with this different style.

Jessica:  Exactly. I’ll try to adjust.

Jessica is excited about her new haircut. However, she realizes that it might take a lot of work to keep it looking good. She will need to change her hair routine to maintain the new style. She thinks it’s worth spending the extra time to keep it up.

Gary can see that Jessica got a haircut, and he thinks the new style looks really nice. He suggests that Jessica will have to create a new routine to keep her hair the way she likes it.

Is there something in your life that needs a lot of maintenance? Is it worth it?

Oh you make me laugh Julito! :-)))

It depends on age!

Some men lose their hair very soon while they are still very young!

I meant them!

Of course I still have the same opinion about beauty! :-P

Dear Mahtab, excuse me if your “confession” makes me laugh, jejejejeje!! poor guys indeed , how many hearts you have broken  on an account of having had their hair prematurely  blown off by a genetic condition.  In my case i  would have to be included in your  list of the” losers” .... thumbs down also for julito… jajajaja

Dear Julito!

You reminded me two of the best actors!

I liked both!

Yul Brynner and Telly Savallas (Kojack was a popular series when I was a kid!)

But except those actors I think having hair is a sign of beauty for men and women!

Oh I remember the poor guys I rejected their marriage proposal because they were bald!:-D

Dear Mahtab, in the past in Hollywood movies to see a “bold” actor was a rarity, i can only remember Yul Brynner and Telly Savallas .What set them apart was not only  they were outstanding actors but also had  their heads shaved. What we are seeing now, young people  consider ” cool” a shaved head.

Thanks to Buttafly i have learned a new vocabulary ” pixie haircut” now i know, very short hair .

Everything we have in our life, needs maintenance, but something needs a lot, in my opinion, my health is the most important thing for me and it needs a lot of maintenance and it is worth it, Generally I don’t like maintenance, especially high maintenance!

I’m who spends a lot of time to find a way to do work more easier and not to need to maintain them!

I can’t even think about men spend a lot of time for the style of Beard, mustache and hair!

Caring for Indian cotton clothes which require high maintenance is a devil of a job.

We machine wash, hand wash or dry clean them according to their texture and their ability to bleed color. Then we starch every piece of clothing separately and steam iron them.

Is it worth all the trouble? It sure is! They give us a laid-back look and great amount of comfort on hot sultry days.

Hi guys how are you doing ? I have read so many people writen a bout having long hair and short hair, I think to differentiate between a girl and a boy its better that girls should keep their hair grow longer and boy should cut off their hair .

About hair,i didn’t spend much time on my hair and i totally forgot how long i haven’t been salon.I try several short hairstyles and everytime people surrounded gave me the same feedback that i looks better with long hair.when it gets longer,i had it cut by myself.Very convenience.A man have to need more time to shave beard and had their hair cut.I like to try hair -free in summer that would be preasantly cool.easy to wash and water save.

Tarita, I  can only speak for myself. I’ve tried to let my hair grow but as soon as it started to look wild, I also went wild about it. I started to moan and bitch about how hard it is to manage. I hate bad hair days. That’s just one of many reasons why I love pixie hair cuts…So for me…yeah..I think it’s worth the time and money. Everytime I leave the salon I feel a certain bliss, which I believe shows in my face. After all wearing a certain hairstyle is a psychological thing, don’t you think? ;)

ScienceBoy, are you toying with the idea to go hair-free?? Well, I can tell you a few of my colleagues seem to enjoy the so called “bald-sexiness” ever since they lost the battle. I never asked them, but I think it’s just about the same routine you guys have to go through to keep your face hair free. Some guys do it on a daily basis while others shave every two or three days.

Oh I think life needs high maintenance!! :)

And of course it is worth if you maintain your house , your work , your family , your pet , your staffs and your relationship  with all your efforts , energy, money and time! :)

If not you will lose many things and you have to hear it is too little , too late! ;-)

About hair style I think some styles need more maintenance and need to take more time if you want to look better!

I have the same hair style for years because I dont need to change my routine to maintaine that!

Anyway my hair is not very fussy! :-P

Living in this new technological world requires a high maintenance itself. Yes everyting is easier with new technologies but everyting is different and somehow complicated as well. Now there are many things to keep up.

Is long hair hard to style or short hair? Buttafly and Tarita, if you ask me a bald head is the hardest one to style. Or is it he easiest one?

To answer what in my life needs a lot of maintenance  and if is it worth it, first of all ,let me say that the answer is obvious – at least for me – actually is a no-brainer . I am high maintenance ,all of me is high maintenance . Bills are piling up every month… gas, power, cable, expenses, groceries. cell phone, internet etc.etc , and on top of this  i need a root canal procedure and implant . All these to keep myself going .To cut a bit  my drainage of money i am cutting  myself my hair ,jejejeje!!, Is it worth it all this trouble ? yes, it is.

buttafly, you’re right, long hair is often easier to style… and it looks better when it isn’t styled at all. I know it well ‘cause I’ve tried a lot of haircuts. Is a haircut worth time and trouble?

I’ve been wearing my hair short since God knows when.  I never regretted it. It definitely is a big misconception that shorter hair is easier to care for. It takes me up to 10 minutes  every morning to style it . Then there are the regular intervals of visiting the salon. Nevertheless, everytime I leave that place, I feel so much freer. Funny thing is…I also feel much more feminine with a pixie hair cut :)
