Do you remember learning how to ride a bike? Like most people, you probably started at a young age on a bike with three wheels. And you probably practiced like that for a while. But once you got a feel for what it’s like to be on a bike, then you moved to one with only two wheels. Just like learning anything new, it often takes a while to get a feel for it.

To get a feel for something means to become comfortable with doing a new activity. Some things take a while to get a feel for, like driving a car or playing golf. Other things can be much easier. For example, it normally doesn’t take too long to get a feel for a new job. You can probably tell pretty quickly whether or not you will like it.

Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar said that she likes to make movies with really good actors because she can get a feel for how they work. She thinks it is good to work with people who are good at their jobs so she can learn from them.

What is something you had to get a feel for this year?

In the meantime, I’m trying to get a feel for French language. I have no clue how much time should it take, but after reading NavidArash’s comment and the nagging thought I have about my long time of learning English and yet still struggling for fluency, I’m realizing that excelling the language wouldn’t be anywhere in the near future.

Anyways, as long as your heart is set on it, you’re gonna get a feel for it.

It only take a certain amount of time to get a feel for some particular activities such as riding a bicycle, cooking, driving … even you could master it in such a short time but It sounds different for learning a foreign language especially when you don’t live in an environment that the language is widely spoken out there.

I began to learn English when I was 15 years old, In that time I knew only a handful of English words by heart such as Yes ,No OK … But I thought big, I set a goal to speak English like a native speaker, and I thought It may only take 2 or 3 years to get a feel for it but It was my dumbness to think so. Now 15 years passed but still I’m struggling to get a feel for it and it sounds that some things in this world are lifelong learning process like life itself and It doesn’t matter how good you are still there are many new things to learn.

I am not disappointed by this fact cos the learning process was all pleasurable and fun for me and in fact I’ve had a blast so far and the pleasure still goes on as long as there is something new to learn till the last minute of my life and It sounds really great. I wish English Baby would continue its services till that time and even further on and I could stay as a devoted follower and read its articles as well as all comments from my fellow learners.
