In the new movie 13 Going On 30, it is 1987 and Jenna Rink is a 13-year-old girl who wants more than anything to grow up. At her 13th birthday party, she makes a wish: If only she could be an adult, she’d have the life she’s always wanted. Miraculously, her wish comes true. The next day, it’s 2004 and she’s 30 years old. What’s more, she is a gorgeous successful woman with a great job and a fabulous Fifth Avenue apartment. She is finally cool and popular. The only hitch? She has absolutely no idea how she got there.

Miguel: Beth, did you see 13 Going On 30 yet?

Beth: No, but I love Jennifer Garner so I definitely want to see it.

Miguel: Yeah, it seemed like the kind of movie you might be in to. But, I haven’t seen it yet either, but for some reason it kind of appeals to me. It’s not usually the kind of movie I would see, but I think I might go see this one.

Beth: It’s cool because her role in Alias is just so different than the way that she’s portrayed in that movie. So, I’m excited to see her performance.

Miguel: Yeah, usually I think of her as kind of like an athletic, dangerous girl. Like, I think she was in that movie Daredevil and she was like an assassin or something, so it’ll be neat to see her as, like, a 13 year-old, immature, you know, funny girl. It’ll be a total change.

Discussion

I haven’t seen 13 Going On 30, and like Miguel, it’s not really the kind of movie I would see. However, Jennifer Garner does have a special charm that makes this movie somewhat appealing. I think I would go see it if a friend of mine really wanted to go.
The story in 13 Going On 30 is very similar to some other movies. One of the best of those movies is called Big, which came out about 15 years ago. Tom Hanks starred in it and it’s really funny. If you’re in the mood for some laughs, you should check it out!
