A wise rock star keeps his or her old friends. You need them there to keep you honest, and hey, let’s be realistic, fame often doesn’t last forever. But as long as you’re good to your old friends when you’re at the top, they will welcome you back when your 15 minutes are up.
Amanda knows someone who grew up with Maroon 5. Listen to her tell Kevin about it.

Kevin: You know who I rediscovered recently?
Amanda: Who?
Kevin: Maroon 5.
Amanda: Oh, God, be still my heart. Adam Levine, lead singer…
Kevin: Who’s so attractive.
Amanda: ...who, pretty much you wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, “Hi Adam.” Right? Do you get that a lot when you walk down the street?
Kevin: I wish, I wish.
Amanda: Oh, body, face, style, everything, it’s fantastic.
Kevin: Man! Although, I don’t know anyone else who’s in the group.
Amanda: Are you really paying attention to anyone else? I mean really? Behind the man?
Kevin: Why would you?
Amanda: I don’t know. But can I tell you something cool? My friends went to high school with Maroon 5, the whole band, so they email and text all the time, and she forwards me all their email trails, which I know is very immature. So I get to read every single thing.
Kevin: Are they good guys?
Amanda: Um, she said that when he’s with the high school crew, he’s pretty humble and down to earth, but when, say, she gets tickets and goes to a back stage show, he’s real international pop sensation-y. Kind of annoying. But he’s pretty big, so he might as well enjoy it now before it’s gone.
Kevin: ‘Cause it probably won’t last. I mean their music is catchy, but it’s not exactly, you know…
Amanda: Unique.
Kevin: Or profound. I mean, it’s poppy. But it’s fun.
Amanda: They’re actually going to come here next month.
Kevin: Really? Do you have tickets?
Amanda: Kind of expensive, so I don’t know.
Kevin: How much?
Amanda: They’re $75 for nosebleed.
Kevin: Oh…

Amanda thinks that Kevin looks like the singer of Maroon 5. He says he’s never heard that before, but he’s flattered because he thinks Adam Levine is really attractive.
Oddly enough, Amanda has a friend who went to high school with Maroon 5 and who forwards her all the emails she gets from the band. Amanda’s friend says that Levine still acts like a regular guy when he’s around his old friends, but he acts like a star at his shows.
Kevin thinks that’s okay because he should be enjoying being famous. Although his music is fun, Kevin doesn’t think it has staying power. But for now, Maroon 5 is able to get $75 a ticket or more for their shows, and that’s pretty impressive!
Did anyone you grew up with become famous? Have you ever hung out with a famous person? Was he or she nice?
