Hi Friends!
Family is a common topic of conversation amongst friends. Family is an easy thing to talk about, because everyone has a family, in one form or another. Siblings, in particular, are a good source of interesting anecdotes and stories. It seems like everyone who has a brother or sister has a crazy story to tell.
Anna and Beth both have sisters, but each has a different kind of relationship with her sister. Listen to their recent conversation to hear all about it.

Beth:  Anna, I have one sister. What about you?

Anna:  I have one sister. She’s four years younger. What about your sister – older/younger?

Beth:  She’s two years younger.

Anna:  You guys get along pretty well?

Beth:  We do. We, uh, we’re really close even though we live far apart. But, uh, we’re pretty similar, and, um, it’s always so much fun to get back together. What about you and your sister?

Anna:  We are about as opposite as sisters can be. I have, uh, super curly hair – she has super straight hair. I’m super organized – I don’t think she could find two matching socks if her life depended on it. But overall, we, we get along pretty well. But sometimes she does things that either make me a little bit angry or make me jealous. How about you?

Beth:  Well, no, I can’t really think of anything that makes me angry about my sister. For the most part we’ve been, we’ve always been like best friends, actually. It’s kind of crazy.

Anna:  Oh, that’s great. Usually the angry is just, um, I’m always sending out the birthday cards and signing her name, and I just think – Good grief, can’t you send your own birthday card!?! But I guess that’s what makes us pretty close in the end.

Discussion

Having a sister is so much fun! I have two sisters, and like Anna and her sister, we’re all totally different. Of course we share many of the same traits and habits, but each of us has our own quirks. For example, I’m very outgoing and excited about meeting new people. One of my sisters, on the other hand, is a little bit shy and reserved.
Whether you have a big family or a small one, family is a fun thing to talk about – and it’s a great way to practice your English!
Have a great week!
