Sometimes life sneaks up and surprises you. One day you’re a just a kid, running around and having fun. Then all of a sudden you’re an adult with kids of your own. It seems like barely any time has passed, but really, years have gone by and now you’re all grown up. And if you’re anything like the actor Ryan Philippe, it totally blows your mind!
Philippe can’t believe he has a 10-year-old daughter. It blows his mind that he has a daughter that age because he still feels like he isn’t much older than 10 himself. He is shocked and amazed by how quickly time passes.
Often you say something blows your mind if it amazes or shocks you, as in, “I can’t believe my sister is going to be in a movie with Tom Cruise. That really blows my mind.” But you might also say that something blows your mind if it really impresses you. We often say “It blows my mind” when talking about a movie or song that we think is really interesting, different, and impressive.
When we use the expression blow someone’s mind, we always have to separate blow and mind with an object. The object is the one whose mind is being blown. For example, if we say “Iron Man blew my sister’s mind,” my sister is the object. And if we say “This song blows my mind,” I am the object.
