It’s important to show your mom that you love her every day, but Mother’s Day is particularly important. In the US, Mother’s Day occurs on the second Sunday in May. On this holiday, you may express your feelings to your mom by making her a card, or giving her flowers, or taking her out to brunch. Or maybe she’d prefer breakfast in bed!

When a woman becomes a mother, Mother’s Day changes. In addition to celebrating her mom, her children and loved ones begin to celebrate her. Find out how Marni feels about her first Mother’s Day as a mom in this holiday English lesson.

Mason:  So, Marni, are you excited for your first Mother’s Day?

Marni:  You know, I hadn’t even thought about it, but you’re absolutely right! I officially get to celebrate this holiday because I am officially a mother.

Mason:  What’s it like when all of a sudden there’s this holiday you’ve been participating in your whole life from one side, and now you’re in the club?

Marni:  It has new meaning, it’s true. I don’t know. I guess I’m kind of excited. I never thought about it, because what I love about Mother’s Day is going out to brunch and giving my mom flowers, so I guess now I can be the recipient of all those things.

Mason:  You absolutely can. Why is it that brunch is such a Mother’s Day thing?

Marni:  I don’t know. It’s fun to go out, and you get to spend time with someone over a meal, and just chat. You’re right, it is just kind of synonymous with Mother’s Day. I like it.

Mason:  You don’t think it’s just because the powers-that-be wanted to ensure that mom was still gonna cook dinner? We can’t let her off the hook from that?

Marni:  Ah, that’s true. But I’m not gonna cook dinner, so I’d better have meals made for me all day.

Mason realizes that a big event is coming up in Marni’s life: she’s about to celebrate her first Mother’s Day as a mother herself. She is now “in the club” of mothers. She realizes that she can now enjoy all the benefits of motherhood that she has given to her own mother in the past.

Mason wonders why Mother’s Day brunch is such a popular tradition. It might just be because it’s nice to share a meal with your mother. Mason wonders, too, if it might come from an expectation that a mother should cook dinner, even on her holiday. Marni doesn’t care about that expectation. She doesn’t want to cook any meals for herself on Mother’s Day.

Is Mother’s Day celebrated in your country? What do you do to celebrate your mother? If you are a mother, how do you like your family to show you their appreciation?

But I don’t like a sticker with it.

This word is too much for a present .

In our country, the  Mother’s Day is on the second Sunday in May, too . I think Mother’s Day is one of the most important holidays in our country. Almost family will go out to eat for this big day and children will give flowers or presents to mother, in this case, a lots prouducts which related to women will much cheaper and have special discount, such like shoes, bags, cosmetics, etc. Anyway, the the meaning of this day is to show how we love mom,  so how to celebrate it is not the most important thing, for a mother, “it’s the thought that counts.”  ;D

To hear your child calling you mom is a great feeling. Sometimes when my  kid calls me mom I pretend that I did not hear him  to let him say it again, and when he does some mistakes  and I try to show  that I am  angry of him i feel that I am punishing myself. You cannot imagine the feeling of being a mother unless you become a mother.  So thanks mom who till now shares with me my happiness and bears my troubles. She gives me what I am  giving to my child.

Mother’s Day also occurs on the second Sunday in May in my country. Many primary school students are taught to remember this important day, and when they come back home they’ll help their moms do some affairs. For example, the children will wash their dear mothers’ feet. As for the brunch … I think children or teenagers are not good at cooking at all.

Everybody gives his or her mother flowers (such as carnation), gifts or cards which are filled with greetings. I have been not in hometown and studied in a strange city for so many years, so I can’t celebrate this day with my mom every year. I always call her in that day and tell her I miss her so much!

“Youth fades; love droops; the leaves of friendship fall. A mother’s secret hope outlives them all.” Oliver Wendell Holmes.
